Just a standard Sunday doing brakes on the cruiser and guess what? Damn wheel lock key stripped, no documentation as to what part since I’m sure I threw that away when I installed RW’s (genius right?). 4 x spare 14mm 65315 standard spline lug nuts sitting right on my bench waiting to be installed but now I’m screwed. Anyone have luck getting a replacement from Mcgard or getting these b&$tards off another way?
RW’s are too nice to weld near. Prob gonna try to beat a socket on and remove but thought I’d ask the collective. I can’t be the only idiot here who has had this happen

You’re not alone.
McGuard makes the Tiyota units too...so they are identically problematic.
I long ago started dumping wheel locks after having the same problem many years ago on my 100 series. The key breaks easily and can leave you stranded.
Don the need locks IMO bc Rock warriors already require a spline adapter...which casual thieves (and even a lot of shops) don’t have on hand...so I think they’re less vulnerable.
If I bought a full RW lug set again...the first thing I would do would be to dump the 4 locking lugs and replace them...& gleefully throw away the key.

For the time being anyway. Once thieves learn what these are getting on the used market, and that they aren’t totally unique, I wonder if we’ll start having problems with theft.

I’ve wondered that too. But I also notice how rarely I see them even on Tundras any more. It’s been a number of years now since that edition was offered.
On the other hand...maybe keeping mine so thrashed & scraped means no one will steal them.
Yep. This is the first step to the plan. I have a local shop that I think I can trust to try this. If not, I’ll be hammering 12pt sockets on them until I can get them off. Sure your plan to drill them off however, I’m intrigued.

Mine are the Toyota lugs. Just sucks that it happens when I’m doing other work and planned to replace. Not worried about theft, spline lugs are plenty security. Prob will beat on a socket and remove all four now that my “key” is trashed.
To clarify above reply, I’ll try to beat a socket on first then take to a shop to see what their ideas are. Not wanting to trash my wheels in the process. Powder coat is not cheap or easy.
The tire shop stripped the key on my 100 series and they just beat a socket on and with an impact wrench it came off. Took them about 10 seconds. After seeing that I knew the locking lug nuts were a waste of money.
