Update.... Found the key/lock paperwork "filed" in my roller box in the garage. Ordered new key from McGard hoping I can use it to remove the slightly damaged lock. At least I don't have to bang a socket on all four to replace them now. Crossing my fingers until that shows up.

I just purchased these:

to address this:

...and of course it happened after all the lugs were back on. Now I just need find a way to remove them. I have the little plastic bag for the spline key and the lock key, but no card to verify info with McGard

I had a my stock key fail in the same way. Fortunately, I had a press handy and was able to seat the pattern back into the key enough to take off the last two locks. If you have a large vice, might be able to do the same? I recall the pattern doesn't have much meat for an improvised tool to grab onto?

Like what @tbisaacs suggests, I'd give a tire center a call and see how much they'd charge to deal with it. They may even have a key handy for the common locks out there.

I have used McGard locks for a long time without any trouble. I bet that almost all failures are caused by using impact guns on them, which the instructions recommend against. When I have to let someone else take my wheels off, I replace the McGard with a regular lug nut before drop off. Back home, replace the McGard, and retorque them all.

Even if the lock survives, the locking lugs don’t have the spinning cone insert that is required to keep from galling the tapered seat in the wheel. The other lugs in this set have that. Many people running cheap aftermarket lugs on their rock warriors have damaged lug nut seats.

I have two sets of the mcgard locks if anyone wants to temp fate and “protect” their wheels...

I have a few sets as well. They'll probably all make it into the scrap metal bin at some point when I'm doing my spring garage cleaning.

Beautiful - this worked for me. Thank you. I used a brass punch, got the piece back in, hammered onto remaining wheel locks and voila - off they came and into the trash they went :).

anybody got 4 RW and 4 standard lugs (for the TRD pro wheels I have on the LX) they want to sell?

The tire shop stripped the key on my 100 series and they just beat a socket on and with an impact wrench it came off. Took them about 10 seconds. After seeing that I knew the locking lug nuts were a waste of money.
This is exactly what happend to me as well.
Most of the tire shops over torque the lug nuts with locks and then complaint that the lock is wrong or stripped by someone else (previous mechanic). I had 2 spares and none of the spares to unlock them due to over torqued lug nuts.

The shop could easily remove then with a different tool and they recommended to not but lug locks anymore as they offer little protection to thieves and more pain for mechanics.

These will work for your RWs, McGard makes the lugs for the RWs. I think possibly they may not be the same length, but otherwise work fine.

edit: in context..clearly this link is superfluous.
