Hi Folks,

For this month, the world famous SoCal TLCA club led by our very own Madam President plans to explore Rattlesnake Canyon with a side excursion on Mottino Wash Saturday May 17th . We will plan to meet at 9:00 am at the intersection of CA-247, aka. Old Woman Springs Road, and Rattlesnake Canyon Road (34.36997, -116.65071). Be sure to gas up in before hand; I get mine shortly after exiting I-15.

We will travel on Rattlesnake Canyon which turns into Viscera Spring Rd and intersects with Mottino Wash (34.27539, -116.66312). For those of us with adequately modified rigs and not too concerned with body damage, they can try the difficult bypass (2.3 miles) while we will continue on Viscera Spring Rd to the BLM cabin (34.26112, -116.65624) for a rest and perhaps explore the surrounding area. Then continue to the rendezvous point where Mottino Wash meets with Viscera Spring Rd (34.25821, -116.64912). We will then continue to Big Bear.

The plan is to convoy to Tropicali in Big Bear before we part ways. Please reply to this post if you plan to attend the day run.

Chris and I may return to the mountain and camp overnight just to get rid of the city grimes. Let us know if you would be interested in a night in the wild!

I look forward to seeing you.

Wife and I are in, also want to camp!
I'll be putting my new (to me) RTT to the test.

Weather forecast is favorable for a cool comfortable night. I’m planning to camp if it holds up.

Is extra fuel a good idea for this trip?

Do you know where you plan to camp? I would prefer to skip Tropicali and head to a camp site and meet up later. I would rather have a beer in the woods away from the crowds and grill my usual...

We have several options on the north side of Fawn Skin:
1. along our Adopt a trail route (34.2885833, -116.9203889);
2. where we camp for Big Bear A Thong;
3. other options I had picked out as alternatives to the Big Bear A Thon camp site.
I would favor heading to camp as opposed to Tropicali especially if it’s later in the day.

It is supposed to be in the mid-thirties in Big Bear on Saturday night and no fires allowed. Any thoughts on heading back down the mountain and camping on BLM land? It would be warmer and we could have a fire. One idea I had was if we finish Rattlesnake Canyon early we could run Heartbreak Ridge then backtrack down to near the BLM Cabin to camp. Just an idea but I am open to whatever...

we can definitely go back to BLM to camp. Do you know a good place? I can also look.
