Sooo, after some interest in my drip rail LED lighting system I figure I would post up here to see who might actually be interested in making there own, or just buying a complete wire in system. Basically what these are is some waterproof LED strips that happen to be the right size to stick under the drip rail or just about anywhere on you vehicle. They come in many colors. I know I would be willing to make some the right size for an 80(already know the size and location for the power wire) and just about any other vehicle and location. I would just need overall measurements and where the best spot to tap power to the strip would be.

So do I actually have some interest? Would people be willing to build there own with some light soldering and instruction(garage build day)? How about a complete stick on and wire in solution? Just looking for some feedback right now. Ask anybody that went north, they seemed to really dig them. I'll see about pictures tomorrow if I get time :)

Matt

P.S. Russ, I know you'll dig them for sure!

Yes :) i need to check if they will fit with my gutter clamps though.

If you order some i want enough for the outside like yours + enough for inside b pillar to d pillar ds and ps sides.

I have the warm color ones here right now, and I think they would work better inside a vehicle. I will come by one evening and we can play with a foot or so of each to see how it will turn out. I know I am going to use the yellower ones inside. Also I am going to order the brighter ones plus some extra for the outside. Do you want two sections for each side so you can attach it to the trim/window gasket on the inside? I know it doesn't stick to the headliner at all...

dang, that's awesome!!! Lighting is near the top of my mod list for when I get home! What's the deal on those strips? Any length? How's the $$$?
They come in five meter lengths. Different colors, and can be cut every couple of inches. Granted its kind of a pain to get them cleaned up and soldered two once there cut, but I'd say there worth it. The one's above are the 'Cool' white blah, blah, blah...

I wish I could find a spot for these on the Lexus. They make awesome camp lights!
They sure do!! Just stick them right on the side, I'm sure nobody would notice ;)

Here's the link to the guy I buy them from. Yes they are cheaper directly from China, but I speaka-da-engrish and honestly by the time they got here from over sea's I wold have lost focus on them all together. Its hard enough focusing on waiting for the horrible two or three days from down south :flipoff2:

I'm thinking of wiring them up with this for the ultimate 'I'm trashed and need to find my car' sort of situation.

I've got some interest for my 80 as well.

Hey Matt, how'd you run the wiring into the interior? I have the lights cut to length and soldered up, but can't figure if I should drill in to the interior or run through one of the sliders (windows).

Im sure he can add exactly what he did. But basically he ran the wires in through the door seal right behind the B pillar, fished through the headliner down the A pillar to power source/switch.

My thoughts when i do mine was to run it center dome light above the second seats and put a little toggle switch up there..... then again I haven't fully thought it out.

I was thinking along the lines of drilling at the rear and fishing it through to the rear dome cargo light and adding a switch there. Now that you've mentioned the center, that sounds like a better idea because I can actually reach that switch from the front seat. Thanks.

I ran it right behind the B-Pillar and under the trim on the inside. Really clean actually! I'll go try and snap a picture if there's enough light and report back. If not tomorrow AM.

Here is where the wire goes through. I just soldered it straight to the strip, then sealed it with some flowable silicone.
