Single thickness or double thickness in your truck bed? I'm considering replacing my foam rooftop tent mattress and could only accommodate single thickness. Have you slept on a 2.5" foam tent mattress and if so how would it compare? Thanks for the update!
Our RTT mattress is a tad over 3 inch thick and offers a firm side opposite a firmer side but the core is still 1 3/4 inch coil springs, not sponge rubber.
The Truck bed mattress is only 2 7/8 inch thick and it could possibly go thicker but 1/2 inch equals nearly 2 1/2 inch thicker when stowed away. In the back of a Taco, that equates to nearly 12 cubic feet of lost storage space. (2.5 inch X 16" x 43") Our
Saddle Bag which is currently under development and approaching the Guinea Pig phase, could facilitate a thicker
Truck Bed Mattress because we are aiding limited storage space in the back of a pick-up, particularly one with a camping tent installed.
Truck Bed Mattress construction: Theory regards the bottom layer of polypropylene sheet is that it aids with additional lift as it interacts with body weight and the ribs of the truck floor. As your body presses the mattress into the valleys, the rigid plastic which has good memory, lifts upward over the mesa in response and interacts with the coil springs thus creating perceived increase in thickness and comfort. My patent application is based on this feature.
But, all human bodies were not created the same and many of us suffer from self inflicted abuse, accidents and aging. Up to this time the only negative feedback regarding comfort is from people who have difficulty sleeping on any mattress.
