Ok, I love the rusty ol FJ40, but that might not be the best choice for a DD.
If/when I get my drivers licence, a FJC might be a nice choice. Retro, capable, ugly, and best of all... TOYOTA.

I figure if I'm gonna get one of these, leaving it stock would be a horrid thing to do. Why not get lower gearing for getting out when some moron double parks you into a corner? :D
Since this is basicly a FourRunner, could you get a Marlin Crawler 2(range) box for this? Those range doublers confuse me, all I know is about the 40, I dunno wtf about Tacos, or Runners. Clue me in, as to what we could do with the FJC.
I want to get an automatic, for simplicity, and for the fact that I'm not going to use 4WD all the time in the urban jungle of Honolulu, and gas over here cost slightly less then the price of gold.

Don't tell me no one reads the FJC section...

hey wats up player. I'm on the 808 also and thinking about the same thing you are. Theres a hawaii forum (kind of dead) for toyota owners here @ http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=74

Im OG over there too.

WHo you going to buy it from? I know a real cool salesperson at the Mapunapuna location, maybe we can work our deals together and both get the same price.

from what I've read (speculation since no one has them in hand to play with) is that the t-case is either full time or automatic, so it's not the same as what's in the tacoma's right now....and I" don't believe anything from Marlin drops into the latest gen 4Runnerz.

suspect there will be some work to do prior to droppin in a doubler....

Uhh, it might me another couple years beefore I get a FJC. :D I'll catch up with you. :D

But I forgot to mention... I don"t need a license off road! :D
I have driven on the highway however. *wink*

The fuel tank gets in the way right behind the tc. You'd have to relocate your fuel tank prior to adding the crawl box.

Good luck

Regear existing?

you'll want to regear first but unfortunately there are none that exists. This means that you're sort of stuck w/ the 3.727's for now. Aftermarket gears are in the works and expect to see stuff hit the shelves this fall from the mfg.

crawl box from marlin is also in r&d but no exact eta has been set. But like I said, if you want the crawl box, you'll need to relocate the fuel tank because there's no room behind the transfer case as you have approximately 4" to spare before you hit the fuel tank.

Basically before anybody makes some dual t-cases for this truck, a few of them will have first of all get wrecked. Then AFTER THAT guys like Marlin and them can start to tinker with them and make something do-able. It will probably be three or four years before a working setup is put up for sale as a kit.Oh well.

Can you buy T-cases from your friendly Local Toyota?
I mean, if someone wreckes their Xfer, they've gotta get new ones somewhere... :)

Nice to see some hawaii guys on here, I'm moving to Oahu in September... will be bringing my FJ60. I'm also thinking about an FJC.

OG - If you get one I'll have to stop by and check it out.

Cool. lemme hang wit you! :)

rustproof it before you ship. it will start rusting as soon as they take it out of the container in hawaii

Yeah, everything rusts. I've seen the inside of a computer rusted worse then some LCs... Hell, even I'm rusting...

Oooh. nuther question... If I get the parttme 4x4, can I get a Marlin Twin Stick T-case shifter, like the taco one? It shifts in a J pattern.
