Marlin 'Toy Box' Install in a 40 (1 Viewer)

Both are good products. Both work wonderful on the trail. In a longer vehicle one could consider price to be the deciding factor. In a 40 where drivetrain length is a major issue I really believe the Rockbox is the sweet unit.

With the SBC and AAs rockbox the crossmember stayed in the factory location with no mods. The stock speedo and E-brake cables fit fine. Best of all the stock tranny hump went back in with only one simple hole added to accomodate the new shifter.

Does anyone know if you can mate a Toybox up to the back of an H55F? That would be a sweet setup...Would have to move the rear axle back quite a bit, but it would definately be great for a daily driver.

Edit: Also, with an H42...How much of a body lift is recommended, again? I seem to recall reading 1.5", but not sure on that.

Not yet................

To my knowledge, but we have asked a few times and been teased by the possibility.

Not best to hold your breath.

What did you pay for the tpybox? I have ordered a rockbox for just under a grand, and the marlin appears to be much more. I might have to go that route as now there are problems with the rockbox and they aren't shipping as I type this. I am very frustrated right now, I need a low ratio, and want to keep my stock 2F/4spd/4spd transfer.

The adapter kit maybe but that didn't include the donor t-case. Besides, that was a Toy-mini and we're talking about a Landcruiser. Quite a difference.

Doner t-cases are in the $100-150 range...I bought an entire 1984 minitruck for $250, sold parts off and ended up even on $$.

IMO, the Marlin is a nicer setup....offers more adapter options, and a choice of low range ratios to install up front, or change out later.

I stant on what i said before i love my marlin allso i just ordered another toy 82 ordered another one cool

oops got another toy 82

Does anyone know if AA or Marlin will offer a Toy Box for an NV4500? Will it replace my adapter to the 3 speed case?

I called them a few days ago. The "counter" guy didn't know much and I didn't get to talk to the "shop" guy. (Sorry, don't know those folks yet.) The message I got by relay was that they're thinking about it.

But it would add an additional ~6", which is too much for my 40. I mentioned that AA replaces the Chev tailhousing with a Dodge tailhousing and you cut the output shaft down to the inner splines. He wasn't aware of that setup. I asked if he thought they could incorporate the gears in the space of the existing NV tailhousing and he didn't know. (I realize this may not be possible, but maybe so with an even shorter output shaft??)

(all i know. wishing for gears too.)
The guy to talk to at AA about the Rockbox/NV4500 is Michael Partridge. He has been an excellent resource. IIRC he told me at Moab that could do the 4500. He also said if I found him an H55 shaft he could set the RB up for it. He claimed the RB could be set up to act as an adapter for most of the popular trans. and dittto on the TC's.

ScottFJ40, Under a $1,000 huh? PM me please and tell me about that, and the"prob" with the RB.

I have had my RB since Nov., and I'm not aware of any problems. I've pounded the p___ out of it and my truck, including dragging an 8,000lb. cargo container to turn it around.

When hammerhead and I compared the RB and the Marlin on the workbench, the Marlin appeared kinda whimpy(JMO). The RB is only 5in. thick and every detail is massive strong. Can't imagine putting the Marlin behind Horsepowe+NV4500 just to save money. If I had the need for low gears again I'd buy the RB in a heartbeat (after I scraped up the $$$$).

I beleive he is refering to the Two RB that have broken gears.

You can buy the standared Toy Box DIY kit for 950.00 dollars...and no that is not including the 4.7:1 gear set just the standard mini truck 2.26:1 gears...its a bit cheaper if you go with the SM420/SM465 kit because you don't need a new tranny output shaft.

i have never heard of a Mini truck CASE breaking so i wouldn't worry about that aspect of it. and there are guys out there running Housepower+ out there...just ask Mace about his output shaft though!

Actually it was the second Input shaft. When I did my dual case setup I went wimpy on the second case and did not do 23 spline input.
When I was doing brodies in my front driveway right before Moab I ripped off my upper link mount and spun the rear axle.. This bound up the pinion and managed to bring me to a dead stop.

When Marlin comes out with the total spline 2.3 gear set I will get one. Course, that will be in front of the 32 spline front dig tcase as well :D

And remember that my setup is different than a toybox. I am running dual mini truck tcases. not a toybox and LC tcase.

The toybox uses the 10 spline input from the SM or stock toy tranny and has the necessary long output for the tranny.

There is nothing wimpy about the toybox. It is just incredibly strong for it's size..

allso i am not saying that [hammerhead ]-[ not right ]i really like my marlin ! in my toy. sorry if you miss under stood what i was trying to say cool
