It's been a rough 24 hours. I won't go into too much detail, but this morning I lost my best buddy, my co-pilot, my trail companion, Marley. I took him in for emergency surgery yesterday for stomach bloat with torsion. He was recovering, but went into cardiac arrest this morning and passed away.

Many of you knew him from past trail rides, though he hasn't been with me on rides for a while due to his hips bothering him quite a bit and my fear that he'd hurt himself worse. Of course, now all I can think of is how much I wish I could take him on just one more ride. Those of you who did know him know that he was about all you can ask for when it comes to a companion. He LOVED riding in the 4Runner and when camping, every night when I went to turn in he was always curled up at the door to the tent.

I'm going to miss him from now until the day we meet again. Do me a favor. If your dog loves riding with you in the truck, take 'em for a ride today, or whenever you can.

Very sorry to hear about Marley. I know what you mean about wishing you had done one more thing for him. I still wish i had taken Buddy for one more ride, even just to the dump which he loved.

Saw this on FB too - I am so sorry to hear of this Allen. Marley was such an awesome dude, you are both very fortunate to have spent so many wonderful years together. Bye Marley, I hope you're running and playing and having a blast with all of the others us people miss so much.........

Sorry to hear about Marley. Losing a loved dog is losing a family member.

Our dogs' biggest fault is that their time with us is far too short. Thinking about you Allen as I am all too familiar with where you are right now - there are no words.

I'm sad to hear of your loss. I always have my boy Deacon with me and my heart sinks to think of of what you are going through. Deac will always be on the trail with me.

Dang Allen, so very sorry to hear about Marley. Wishing you the best in this rough time.
May the best of memories dilute the pain of losing such a great friend.

Hate to hear about your loss Allen. I think what Jason said is the best advice. In time the good memories will replace the bad.

Thanks all for the comments. Kinda tough right now with so many reminders everywhere and the change in routine. I know it'll get better with time. Just really kinda sucks for now.

Thanks Jared (and others). It's been a tough transition. Pretty hard not having him around.
