I'll be there....Han will probably tag along as well. Heck I might actually have my 80 to drive there depending how the re-gearing goes this week.

Almost done with your truck? What's the status on new tires? I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I'll be interested in seeing this truck too!

The BFG KM2s 315s should be here tomorrow - ordered them last week. Picked up all my regearing parts, power steering pump, and rotors from Dan already. The Nitro 4.88 ring and pinion should be showing up tomorrow as well. The front drive shaft is going back to Slee so they can fix it or send me another one. One of these days it'll all be done, hopefully before cruise Moab!

What is the story on the front DS? Is this a Spicer joint dual cardan or did you find a way to get a DC shaft with Koyo joints?

Spicer Dual Cardan.

You suck at stories. :D Why is it going back?

how about a quick head count? thanks.

Hey Shawn - I plan to attend, but will likely be solo. See you there.

As mentioned in the minutes from the last meeting, I will bring a bunch of Toyota Trails for folks to distribute to prospective members.

Maybe Keith or Robbie will chime in here, but my understanding is that Robbie was not able to get either driveshaft (stock or DC) to run smoothly without vibrations. Robbie installed the new Slee front control arms (which are beefy and very cool), but they were really designed for the caster needed by the six inch springs. Keith ordered the 4 inch springs, but the Slee shop told him the front arms should also be compatible with the 4 inch lift.

So, the likely problem is that the arms are giving the truck too much caster and/or the DC shaft is defective.

Now, Mikey, is that a better story for you? :flipoff2:

Evan

P.S. By the way, I have an older DC front drivshaft from Slee. The u-joint at the front of the shaft was already going bad (I'm thinking it was a Spicer unit), but Robbie installed a new Toyota OEM (Koyo?) u-joint in its place. So that's a good thing.

Those control arms are too much for a 4" lift. The LT/Slee caster plates would do the trick with stock bushings, or the Slee 3 degree bushings work well too with a DC front shaft and the rear pinion moved up a bit.

Looks like we solved the driveshaft issue. The rear U-Joints were worn and replaced. The installation of the IPOR skid plate also aided in the drivline angles. Everything seems to be running smooth now with no vibration. I checked with Slee before I ordered those arms for the 4" lift. Several others had been running them with a 4" lift with success, so it was just a matter of eliminating some minor problems.

Those Slee arms are very nice and the IPOR skid plate pretty much makes the bottom end bullet-proof. I like both a lot!

Just what we need - more stuff on the wish list for our 80's!

Let me understand this, the rear UJs of the Slee DC driveshaft were worn? Or do you mean the rear UJs of your rear DS were worn? :hhmm:

As I understand it, it was the latter. Both UJs in the rear driveshaft were replaced.

Both U-joints in the rear were replaced.

Understood. So, when Robbie dropped the front DS, there must have been vibrations that was not mentioned previously.

Right now, both DS are on the vehicle and you're running butter smooth across the board?

Slee's advice was to drop the rear and just drive with the DC front to see if the rear was transmitting vibrations to the front. That seem to be the case as with the DC front in and the rear out the vibrations were not there. Slee's DC is up front and the stock with new U-Joints is in the rear; all is running well. Pretty sure those flares are still asking to be ripped off and black Line-X applied.

Here is a pic sitting on the 315s:
