Hi, Sam. That's interesting, I didn't know that's how these worked. Where is the center diff in the driveline, then?
Center diff = transfer case. It hangs off the transmission and splits the tranny output between front and rear axles.

Oh, ok. Just a matter of terminology, then.

I had a very long conversation with Vic about the difference between CVs and Birfields, a few weeks ago, eventually realizing they are precisely the same thing.

Yeah just terms.
And I'll respectfully add to the CV/Birf thing...while they perform the same function, the birf is far stronger imo.
At least as strong as u-joints.
Heck, saw a guy on TFL a bit ago with a built Rubicon - he was running the Tumbleweed Ranch off road course lol - and instead of going with a Dana front he swapped in the 80 series front axle claiming the birfield strength, closed knuckle design, e-locker, and no ball joints were big advantages over the Dana design.
I've no experience with Dana axles but I can see the open u-joint design and agree it looks vulnerable. :meh:
