Thanks to JP, Steve, Tommy and any others who helped us up in Cullowhee last night and this AM.

Tommy, thanks so much for putting yourself into who knows what trying to helo 4 starngers and one guy youve met 2 or 3 times. I hope you got home OK. We ended up heading down by the red roof church as well, but we the other trail down from where you went. Ran into one tree blocking the road. Thank goodness we had the axe.

Mad props to UC for sending and organizing help! My group couldnt stop saying how awesome it was that that was done for them.

I hope to get a few pictures up over the next few days. For those who didnt know I took a group of 5 up to Cullowhee and both of our vehicles got seriously stuck. Needless to say hopefully the original guy who got stuck learned a few things.

Matt - glad that Tommy got you out OK. I want to thank Tommy too. I planned on driving up first thing in the morning to come in and find you but Tommy offered to do it on his own to save me the trip.

Thanks Tommy!

Now Matt - post up pics! :grinpimp:

I love this club!

2 fenders dented or bent, and a power mirror demolished. Yeah he was mad, real mad.

At least it was a beautiful morning. A pic we took on our way back down.

Where would you hi-lift the 'ole Dirty Goat from? I don't know if that Bull Bar would hold. It might rip right off.

Carl got stuck in a similar way two Cullowhee trips ago. He had to hand saw the root/stump out of the way to keep going. After these calls Sat night I went ahead and packed up my FJC again w/ rescue equipment. I always carry a hi-lift and straps but I've got the chainsaw and a few others things packed again. The wife even said I need to go ahead and get a winch on it again.

You can make a winch with those links Marshall posted up. Hook up some chains to the hi-lift and winch away!

One word for you.

Hi-lift

If you don't have a winch you should have one of these. As well as the assessory kit.

Hi-Lift All Purpose Mechanical Jack — 7000-Lb. Capacity, Model# HL-604 | Farm Jacks | Northern Tool + Equipment

Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit | Farm Jacks | Northern Tool + Equipment

Glad you got out.

Oh we had a high lift. :) But I think we might still be there trying to get them unstuck with it. We used it to winch the Grand away from a tree. Takes forever and when we went to try and do more it started sliding back into the same hole. If I would not have had cell phone coverage I guess we would have just kept on with the HL but man is it a lot of work!

Chainsaw and winch are now on our list for someone to get if not more than one of us. I think that with a chain saw we could have gotten out on our own. The white Cherokee was stuck horribly and wedged into those roots. Chainsaw would have cut that off and we could have HL as a winch him over it or maybe up enough for us to pull the tree out from under him. (Which we ended up doing anyways.)

Yeah the roof rack was slightly overloaded. Luckily it had just slipped off of its mounts. The next day we found a cut tree and slip wood to stack up there. Worked much better!

Did you have the chains and hooks? That is what prevents it from sliding back and allows you to leapfrog the two hooks.

6ft in 30 min is no problem.

We didnt have the extra chains to prevent it from sliding back. That makes much more sense. Will have to remember to pick up a few shorter lengths of chain. We did have a tow strap with hooks (i know I know but it worked.) I have a chain at the house i usually have as well, but didnt this time. Thanks for the vid marshall!
