I prefer the handling of my part timed case, the biggest difference is the steering feels lighter.

As far as adding hubs to your 80 axle, under a 40 with a part time case, do it...right now your front drive drain is spinning even when in 2WD.

Definitely get the Aisin hubs, not the AVM hubs, they are much better quality and you won't have to deal with this mess vvv

If your axle was from a 91-92, then you can bolt the Aisin's right on. If you have a 93-97, then you need to replace the birfs with ones from a 91-92 or get a pair of chromoly (Nitro or RCA) which have both c clip groves cut. The cheap option is to cut an extra groove on your existing birfs. I went with option B and added chromolys.

there should be some pics of few of us cutting grooves on the axle in order to make the Aisins fit.
 
FWIW I didn't mind driving around in "2wd". Now I didn't go part time, just removed the front drive shaft to be repaired and drove around like that for a awhile. Steering felt lighter like mentioned but really didn't notice any real quirks or driving habit changes.
