I'm in the middle of a desmog (I'll post pics and instructions when complete). As I was removing the EGR pipe from the ex. manifold I broke one of the studs that holds it. So I decided to stop and just leave the EGR plumbing on the motor even though the system is bypassed.

Question, while I have the carb off and some other crap out of the way- should I go ahead and remove both manifolds for a gasket and clean/mill job?

Is it painful to remove the manifolds with the engine still in the truck? What componenets do I ned to remove?

Thanks.

hey, so you've decided to desmog. wow.
anyway, if you're a patient person, pulling the manifolds is not a terribly painful job. Having some decent 1/2" drives and working essentially laying on top of the engine... that'll do it.
If it seems like it's in the way. Pull it. So you have unfettered access. believe me, it's easier to put it back on without a tons of crap in the way.

I've done it several times. Take the stuff out of the way.

Good luck.

Thanks Christian - I know it was a dumb question about what stuff is in the way....I was kind of looking for the "it's an easy job" or "it's a complete PITA, don't do it while the engine is in the truck" job. Thanks for the input - I'll probably give it a whirl.

its an easy pain in the ass. not to much to go after the carb and air assembley but is obvious. just take pictures so you can get the vaccuum lines back right

Is there a trick to getting the rear most bolt off?
