Getting ready for Rubithon and took cruiser to get a paper, parked at Pholys and boom, smoke show under hood, wtf, seems slave was puking right onto collector, quite the scene. Now I am replacing a 24 year old slave that has been thru 2 engines. I hate new stuff, if it works let it roll, well thats what I did and my parts are starting to fight back, give up, wear out, makes me wonder what else is on the verge ? Sure glad this didnt happen on the Mtn.

Anything with rubber or that can rust. That should narrow it down :)

But for me, I baseline the following when I want to have reliable trips:
* check driveline for slop
* check TREs for slop
* check belts and hoses for cracks or swelling. Replace if old even if they look good.
* replace hydraulics if old or show any sign of leaking (brake master, calipera/wheel cylinders, clutch master, slave, soft lines)
* check tires for dry rot or cracking
* replace fuel soft lines if old

I really should do a full swap of all rubber fuel lines on my Troopy. I wouldn't be surprised if they are 35 years old and ready to fail.
