Are there supposed to be any magnets in the bottom of the oil pans on these trucks?

I have a fj62 and i'm replacing the oil pan gasket but I see no magnets in the pan I took off. Should they have been there? Can I get replacements?

I can't say that I've ever seen an engine oil pan with an OE magnet. I've seen plenty of auto trans pans with one though.

Howdy! I agree. But it is a good idea to use a drain plug with the built-in magnet. That way you see the good/bad news each time you do an oil change. I have purchased 5# horse shoe magnets from McMaster Carr and dropped them into the gear boxes on my printing presses at work. That way I can do frequent inspections without opening up the oil filters. Too bad automotive boxes are so hard to get into. John

Agreed, no reason not to but the magnetic drain plug might be a better option than one inside as inspection then is easy.

I planned on reusing the drain plug. I did not know it had a magnet on the back of it.

So there are no magnets sitting in the bottom of the pan? I think that is the consensus but just want to be sure.

I thought I heard there were some and I know the transmission pan has them so that is why I was confused.
