Tsacha Lake Fire

There is fire near Tsacha Lake where we are headed. I will call Mof to see if the road is blocked.

"The Tsacha Lake fire near Kluskus, 140 kilometres west of Quesnel, is now 90 per cent contained. Eighty wildland firefighters are working in conjunction with heavy equipment to build fire guards around the flanks of the fire. Helicopters are dropping water to cool flare-ups within the fire perimeter, and crews are extinguishing hot spots. Today, crews continue to work towards completely containing the 450-hectare fire. While the Fire Centre has been successful in managing the fires within its jurisdiction, much of the region remains in an extreme fire danger rating."

Mackenzie Trail locators and contact information

Just to simplify things I have created a simple webpage that has the links to all of our locators and information on how to get a hold of us if required. Alexander Mackenzie Heritage 4x4/wagon Trail 2010
Please feel free to distribute to friends and family that might wont to look in on us... I will also be adding information on our appointed control contact person that will be our primary contact point and can keep everyone informed.

Very cool Drew

New Kluskus Fire

Here is the fire perimeter map for the recent Kluskus fire From MoF they are still extinguishing located west of Upper Kluskus (Squirrel Lake). Apparently the fire crews trucked in their heavy equipment along the 4000 Road and walked their cats and excavators in 9 km west from the bridge near the Kluskus Indian Village (which is east of Squirrel Lake) along the Heritage Trail to access this fire area. The map shows that the Mackenzie trail goes above the fire area, but the access trail to the fire maybe congested so we should be prepared to give-right-of-way to them.

hahaha, I'm prepared to do whatever I need to do and help out however much I can :deadhorse:

Your uncle wants you to phone him more often to discuss trip details. :hhmm:

Hahah yeah, its hard though, I don't have a house phone, because we all have cell phones in my house, but my cell phone only has texting. But I was with him all day today and we got a game plan going, heading to his house friday morning to finish everything. But I'll keep the off-topic chatter off of this thread.

Man, I'm sure it's a bit unnerving being out there in the wilds with the wildfire situation. They have a fire burning around 50-75KM NE of there current location. I'm sure driving out in a hurry is probably not an option.

I emailed Drew, they're OK right now, I'm going to do some more investigating and relay more info to them. Rain good, thunderstorms... not so good

Hi guy's, i am back from the mc kenzie trip.
I had to leave early to be back in time to go to work on wednesday. The trail took longer than expected and we took time to relax.
I left the group monday morning from Eliguk Lake and took an easy trail to the Upper dean river fsr. They do have a trail out. The section they are in now is narrow so most likely lots of bushwacking. We could smell the smoke from tweedsmuir park fire, but could not see it.
The plan was to get out through the wagon road from Gatcho lake to the Upper Dean fsr, (map 30 caribo chilcotan backroad mapbook) before i left them. The fires were east from us.
125 km before william lake on highway 20 is a big fire zone.
Drew is monitoring and responding to ham radio provincial emerency program stations every night. We were up to date of the situation around us.
We should keep tracking them. It looks like the last part of the trail is very heavy judging by the distance they traveled since i left them.

Ronald

Just looked at the forest forest fires map. The tweedsmuir park fire is 30 km west of where the group is planning to get out of the trail onto the Upper dean river fsr. There is no acces into the park for motorized vehicles.

Ronald.
