I know there have been several tire threads lately, but I thought I would share some news.

There has been a lot of discussion about a tire that is between an A/T and a mud tire. I forget the exact Dunlop that Chimyz has, but they are a wise choice if you want something more aggressive than an A/T.

The problem with most mud tires is that they are terrible on wet pavement. On dry pavement, they are acceptable, except they wear quickly, steer terribly, and are dangerous when it comes to braking (IMHO). On snow, they are not sniped and are also dangerous.

I am really liking a new tread that I see in tires that are between the two.

In fact, Nitto is coming out with a new tire that looks very promising. This will be on my hot list for my next set of rubbers.

My TG's are doing fantastic and are wearing great!

With a little more siping, those things would rock in the ice and snow. I know TGs are great tires, so this would be on my list as well...when I need new shoes.

I was wondering the same thing. I have no idea why these are not sipped. I know it can be done afterwards, but not sure how that would effect the warranty, etc.

I'm going to call Nitto and ask.

Are there any disadvantages to siping?

The only disadvantage to siping would be that the tire becomes more prone to getting hacked up on rough rocky trails...other than that, they should hold up pretty well.

It could be because it is a new product, all they had was some rendering of the tread design, and not a final tire image. It does seem weird that they wouldn't sipe them. No problems though, most guys charge like $15 - 30 / tire, and can usually do it on site.

Nitto TRAIL GRAPPLER Two different sidewall designs—that's pretty cool!

All nitto tires supposedly now have this per their website. I saw that too.

I wonder if my Terra Grapplers have this....I don't think so, so maybe this is a new thing...

The Goodyear DuraTrac is the most aggressive tire I have found with the Mountain Snowflake Symbol.

I have had a set of the Goodyear Silent Armors and have been extremely happy with them. I know they do not "look" aggressive, but they have performed well when I have taken them off road. (Snow, rock, dirt, and a little mud -IH8MUD!)
