I'm trying to get around to putting rear bumpers on my M416 and the M100 I just acquired. I don't see any way that a tube bumper for a '40 would be a bolt on. Or even be a good thing.
I'm gonna do the same bumper treatment on the trailers that we do on our '40s. 3x4 square tube laid right across the rear crossmember. Then cut the square tube for oval trailer lights. Put a pintle hitch in the middle. Why the pintle? So that both trailers can be rigged in tandem behind a single tow rig. Just another option if a rig towing ne of the trailers has to be left behind on the trail. Or if it's a not particularly difficult trail and the need for carrying capacity if high. For that matter, to the best of my knowledge there's nothing preventing me from towing them tandem this way on the road (not sure why I would, but...).
Not to mention the need for a recovery point on the rear of the trailer. Occasionally some else needs just a gentle pull which could be accomplished by hitching to the rear of the trailer. Sometimes the rig towing the trailer needs a gentle tug backwards. (It's real easy to kick the trailer over on its side in either of these scenarios). And more likely, there are times that you have to disconnect the trailer and winch it backwards before going after the mired tow rig.
Thanks for the link I like the tailgate on this one. Mark Have you made your bumpers yet for the trailer. If so can u post up some pics. I picked up my trailer last night and am researching plans for it.
