When I did the spring over on my M 416 the J hook for the parking brake was too short. I never thought of using a coupling nut to extend the rod. I tried making a new J hook with a piece of 1/4 threaded rod and bending it. Not strong enough.

To solve this, I bought a 5/8 turnbuckle with a J hook, a coupling nut and a threaded rod. I used locktite in the coupling nut and jam nuts to keep the assembly from loosening up. It worked just fine.
