Hi All,

Does anyone know if this small sheet of metal is removable? Has anyone done it before? Im thinking of removing to get it sanded and repainted, Thanks

Yes they are. It's part of the rear door sensor and each side retails for about $600.

I've done it on my rig although it was in much better conditions than yours. Careful with sanding and repainting. The sensor well has a sensor in it and wires. Paint yes, powder no. Judging by the amount of rust it looks like sand blasting is in order. Take care to protect the sensitive parts.

Here is a recent thread where someone went in and tried to fix. Just be careful. Sometimes the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

My quest to find every spec of rust on this vehicle continues.

Two questions for the brain trust.

1) I found two pretty bad rust spots (bubbling) on what looks to be a piece of metal trim that holds the rubber lift gate gasket in place. One on the driver’s side and one on the passenger side.

It seems like this metal trim just bolts on. Would you all recommend just replacing it? If so, any idea what the part # would be?

2) Any clue why the paint on the top portion of the tailgate is so worn down? Something is clearly contacting it as it feels...
