I posted this in the LX 570 photos thread, but wanted to repost here on topic for anyone who may be considering this upgrade to their vehicle. I just got done with a Stage 1 Harrop TVS 2650 install with custom tune on my 2020 LX570, and the results have been nothing short of fantastic so far.
Backstory is I acquired the Harrop TVS 2650 supercharger from a Toyota dealership. It was a full set in very good condition that they pulled off a traded in Tundra. I paid $1,000 for the whole kit. I worked with Pablo Moreno and his team at Tandem Offroad in Fort Worth, a terrific shop specializing in Lexus and Toyota builds. They inspected the SC for me, replaced a few components, and made sure it was in great condition. They also handled the install.
Pablo reached out to Alex Link with ALTG Services, an authorized OTT retailer. Alex and Pablo did a custom tune on the supercharged engine. Pablo told me the SC sounded and felt great when they tested it with no tune, but after the tune it really hummed with strong consistent power in all phases.
Since I was adding so much boost and weight with sliders and bumper and maybe roof rack expected later, I also wanted to upgrade the brakes, which I found to be a little lacking in the stock truck. We went with the Powerbrake X-Line Big Brake 4x4 kit.
I picked it up yesterday and drove it about 75 miles after pickup on the highway and some back roads. It is a night and day difference from before. The truck is legitimately quick now. Coming from German SUVs (I’ve had Audi and bmw in the past and still have a Q7), my only complaints about the stock LX were that it felt sluggish and the brakes weren’t so sharp.
Not anymore. This thing definitely feels quicker than my Q7 or the X5 40i. You feel the low end torque almost immediately when you hit the accelerator, and it just keeps pulling. I’m guessing 0-60 in about 5 seconds, but the biggest difference is in the midrange. It used to struggle a bit when trying to pass a semi on the highway. Now it accelerates from 60-90 with ease.
And the brakes are a huge plus as well. You definitely get jolted towards the windshield if you apply pressure. The braking feels very controlled as well. It reminds me of the X5 feel.
Overall I couldn’t be happier with the outcome so far. The truck still has all the Offroad capability and comfort of the LX but now also has on-road performance to rival or exceed the Germans. It puts a huge smile on my face every time I hit the gas and get knocked back in my chair, or hit the brakes and lurch forward. And the engine note is beautiful, with just the right amount of SC whine when you hit it. Im also fairly confident that Pablo and the guys at tandem will keep her running like a top. I’m just super excited about the whole thing.
I’ll post some more thoughts in a few days after I’ve had a bit more time with her. I’m also taking her up to the Ozarks in a couple of weeks so we will see how she does on some trails. Will report and share some photos.
