I'm about to install a harrop supercharger on my 21' LX570 with ~70k miles. Already planning to flush the coolant and replace/upgrade injectors + spark plugs. I'm also considering upgrading to the LC500/RCF throttle body as well. Note the car will be custom tuned after everything is installed.

What are some recommended mods or maintenance items I should do while I have the engine/car apart during the install?

I posted this in the LX 570 photos thread, but wanted to repost here on topic for anyone who may be considering this upgrade to their vehicle. I just got done with a Stage 1 Harrop TVS 2650 install with custom tune on my 2020 LX570, and the results have been nothing short of fantastic so far.

Backstory is I acquired the Harrop TVS 2650 supercharger from a Toyota dealership. It was a full set in very good condition that they pulled off a traded in Tundra. I paid $1,000 for the whole kit. I worked with Pablo Moreno and his team at Tandem Offroad in Fort Worth, a terrific shop specializing in Lexus and Toyota builds. They inspected the SC for me, replaced a few components, and made sure it was in great condition. They also handled the install.

Pablo reached out to Alex Link with ALTG Services, an authorized OTT retailer. Alex and Pablo did a custom tune on the supercharged engine. Pablo told me the SC sounded and felt great when they tested it with no tune, but after the tune it really hummed with strong consistent power in all phases.

Since I was adding so much boost and weight with sliders and bumper and maybe roof rack expected later, I also wanted to upgrade the brakes, which I found to be a little lacking in the stock truck. We went with the Powerbrake X-Line Big Brake 4x4 kit.

I picked it up yesterday and drove it about 75 miles after pickup on the highway and some back roads. It is a night and day difference from before. The truck is legitimately quick now. Coming from German SUVs (I’ve had Audi and bmw in the past and still have a Q7), my only complaints about the stock LX were that it felt sluggish and the brakes weren’t so sharp.

Not anymore. This thing definitely feels quicker than my Q7 or the X5 40i. You feel the low end torque almost immediately when you hit the accelerator, and it just keeps pulling. I’m guessing 0-60 in about 5 seconds, but the biggest difference is in the midrange. It used to struggle a bit when trying to pass a semi on the highway. Now it accelerates from 60-90 with ease.

And the brakes are a huge plus as well. You definitely get jolted towards the windshield if you apply pressure. The braking feels very controlled as well. It reminds me of the X5 feel.

Overall I couldn’t be happier with the outcome so far. The truck still has all the Offroad capability and comfort of the LX but now also has on-road performance to rival or exceed the Germans. It puts a huge smile on my face every time I hit the gas and get knocked back in my chair, or hit the brakes and lurch forward. And the engine note is beautiful, with just the right amount of SC whine when you hit it. Im also fairly confident that Pablo and the guys at tandem will keep her running like a top. I’m just super excited about the whole thing.

I’ll post some more thoughts in a few days after I’ve had a bit more time with her. I’m also taking her up to the Ozarks in a couple of weeks so we will see how she does on some trails. Will report and share some photos.

Wow, you stole that supercharger!

Whats the gas mileage implications? I barely get 13 mpg now, will it drop down to single digits after super charger?

I will report back on that after giving it some time. Initial indications are that the effects are modest, perhaps 1mpg less or so.

With 70k miles, you probably aren't due for a waterpump, idler/tensioner bearing, or fan bearing. That would round out my "while you're in there" list. Inspect all of the common leaks that might occur: instigate valley plate (inspect), valve cover gaskets, cam tower sealant, timing cover leaks.

Aside from that, there are a few "while you're in there" performance items that local Viktor G might recommend:

Did you end up replacing the stock injectors? If not, you should replace them and retune ASAP. If running the stock injectors you’ll be incredibly under-fueled for the harrop. I recall reading from the Tundra forums that the stock injectors start cutting fuel around 4k rpm and long term will be very bad for your engine.

I just finished installing a Harrop supercharger on my 2021 and am running a 84mm RC-F throttle body, 80mm pulley, and Deatchwerks 650cc Injectors. Yotawerx did a custom tune on mine and it runs great as well. I’m planning to regear to 3.90 when doing front/rear lockers next month + install catless ARH long tube headers, then will retune and put the truck on a dyno. I considered OTT, but they refuse to tune headers which is a bummer. I also bought a case of VP racing octane booster to keep in my truck in the rare instances I get caught out somewhere with low quality fuel.

+ My tensioner pulley failed while the truck was getting custom tuned, so glad that happened at the shop and not on road/trail.

Yes we did replace the stock injectors.

My truck is 8000+ lbs and was getting around 10 mpg prior to the supercharger. I’m now seeing 12-13 which was a pleasant surprise. This seems inline with what some of the tundra guys have experienced after supercharging.

LOL my wife doesn’t even know about it. Gonna see how long it takes before she notices a difference..
about 7 years ago I sold two of my sports cars. It took my wife a year before she said “what hapenned to the _____ and ______?”
