Sounds like there's a noticeable increase in noise even with the sunroof closed?

@eatSleepWoof

Around town nearly none unless we are having a very windy day with cross winds. I would say most noticeable is between 55-70 but it is at least in my opinion acceptable(Sunroof closed and shade closed). At 80 with all the other road noise and what not it all just blends together and you can't really pinpoint any particular noise.

I'm sure it would be less with a deflector and/or getting the smaller rack that doesn't cover the sunroof.

I will say without a doubt having a christmas tree up there added considerable noise :)

Deflector helps dramatically. Added a thule fairing to my TT rack on the 100 due to the noise as it was very loud on the highway. Put the fairing on and it became silent, was amazed at what a difference it made. Made sure to order the fairing when I got my Gamiviti for the 570 not to have the same issue and its is silent with the fairing on at all speeds.

@kms254 that's perfect, sorry for the delayed response.

Thank you

If you get something that is lower I would be interested in knowing what you got.
I will definitely do that. I don't know that there is anything else out there that is much lower than that and still has a functional weight capacity. I think all available offerings are in that exact range of installed height. Think it comes down to user preference/aesthetic appeal.

This is the most helpful picture for me! You can see below what I was doing the other night (still have the stock rack but now going to the same/similar Rhino Backbone)

That's my measurement with the LC parked halfway into my garage.

One of the first things I wanted to do with my LX was upgrade the roof rack to a platform system. I previously had a Tacoma and moving to the LX I knew I would give up some cargo carrying capacity.

I have a RTT that I use for Mountain bike races and future family outings. I also wanted to be able to haul a large piece of plywood or other lumber. Along with anything else too big or dirty for the inside of the LX.

After a lot of research and pricing options I decided I liked the look and functionality of the Rhino Rack Platform with the Backbone system. I priced it out online and contacted Road Warrior Racks. They are right down the road from where I live and when I inquired about pricing they gave me what I felt like a fair deal. The two guys who worked there were helpful and I got the unassembled version in three days.

I read a lot on here about taking off the roof rack on the LC/LX. With fair warning about removing the bolts in tandem I felt ready to do this. The LX only uses two mounts for its roof rack and the other two mounts have cover plates. Honestly it took longer to clean the entire length of the channel then it did to remove the rack. When installing the Backbone system I left the bolts very loose to give the Backbone room to wiggle to help align the bolts with the nuts in the roof. One thing I also did was run the bolts down into the roof before placing the rails. That way I would know what level of force that would be needed to overcome the old thread sealer. I was very worried about cross threading.

That night I worked to assemble the platform. I purchased the 84" x 56" platform. I took out all the parts and started to follow the assembly instructions. I wish they had torque specs. When assembling I torqued everything to the same level given the particular part, I used my judgement. Also to note, there are many different but very similar washers included. Make sure you look over every part and sort things before you start. Notice the thickness and ID of each washer and what it calls for in the instructions.

I store my RTT on the ceiling of my garage using a 4 pulley system. I lowered that down to a cart and moved it out of the way. I then set the rack on two saw horses and used the pulley system to raise the rack above the LX. I was doing this install practically solo. I backed the LX into the garage and lined it up closely to the racks position and lowered it down onto the Backbone. A little bit of measuring left to right and got it lined up and tightened down. Front and rear attachment points were easy to get to. Middle was not the easiest. I would highly recommend using a ratcheting crescent wrench.

Once installed on the vehicle you have to install these plates that attach the for-aft bars to the crossbars. It was easiest to just climb up there.

I've had minimal driving with it since this weekend but it seems to be fairly quiet, very secure, and low profile. I was hoping to be able to fit my RTT and still fit in the garage but I don't think that is going to happen....

I'll continue to update this post as I add accessories and get more use out of the rack.

Your garage and home/neighborhood look eerily similar to mine. Is Shea Homes the developer?

Rack looks great! I was torn between the Prinsu and this rack, love it on the LX!

Our builder was Meritage, unfortunately with city codes and these national level builders, creative and unique new neighborhoods are a thing of the past. If you want to check it out in person feel free to message me and we can grab a bite somewhere.

Thanks for the write up. I'll be installed the same rack on my 2013 LC. Did you have any issues removing the factory rack and the threaded inserts being loose?

Some replied to a post and said the threaded insert can fall into the roof.

Nice write up. I keep thinking I want/need a rack for my LC.

I had no issues. I took it slow and followed the advise/FSM about removing the bolts a little bit at a time. I took my time and it was problem free.

Where did you find the FSM ? Thanks

Agreed. We were in Solterra prior and that neighborhood was creative and unique but I feel it may be the last of its breed for the front range. We're down south off Smokey Hill and 470 now and everything out here is very very cookie cutter.

Need help to figure out how to install a Rhino Pioneer platform. I asked Rhino customer support, and while I am waiting for them to reply, I'd like to check here too. I purchased a used platform 84x56" that came with what I believe are RLT600 legs that are already attached to the platform. There are 4 pairs of them (the original owner added another crossbar). My car is a Lexus LX570 2010 with an OEM rack with rails and crossbars. I want to remove it and install that Pioneer platform. I believe I need tracks RTS540 that are identical to what Rhino's web site says work for Toyota Land Cruiser. Does anyone know if it would work on my LX570 too? Also, is there any way I can get spare botls and nuts for mounting RLT600 to the tracks?

I'm not sure about individual feet. I used their backbone system.
