Considering trading in my '16 Tacoma for a ~2010-2014 LX570. A bit worried about fuel economy, and there is very limited real-world data out there, including on Fuelly. Girlfriend's father owns a 2010 LC200 and says he gets a steady 12L/100km average. I'd be thrilled with that.

What kind of fuel economy are you actually getting in your 200 series? Experience shows that EPA numbers and real-world results can very different things.

For what it's worth, the 200 series would be kept very close to stock. AT tires, perhaps aluminum skids, and maybes for winch, sliders, light~ish drawer system in the back.

Stock...I got 19+ on highway trips.

Fully built, heavy, and way more wind resistance... 12.

Around town?
You don’t wanna know! :)

I get 12-14 in town and 18 on the road with no wind and fairly level.

11 in town. 15 hwy. US Gallons/mile
215k miles on engine

12 mpg with KO2s, have to refill every 250 miles. Mine is close to stock other than sliders and icon suspension

14.8 - 14.9 mpg in mostly highway commute. When towing - you don;t want to know, lol.

I run premium 93 octane, like it more for what feels like better throttle response and shift points, same fuel economy as running regular (87) gas.

50/50 highway/city driving and average 13.8 for the last 2500 miles. A typical fill up would do about 250+ miles. Highway only I get 17mpg and city is 12-13.

If you have to ask ...... :D

I know, I know. I love the reliability, promised longevity, off-road capability and the interior space, but am having a hard time swallowing the price given the fuel economy.

The other vehicle I'm considering is a 2012+ ML 550 w/ the off-road package (skids, transfer case w/ low range, some electronic goodies). Better fuel economy and I've owed a few MBs before, so I'm naturally gravitating to what I have experience with. A 2014-2015 model can be had for $15-20k CAD cheaper than a LX570 of similar year/mileage. In terms of capability the ML would do everything I need (I had an '06 one that did), and that price difference certainly buys a lot of potential repairs...

Drive them both. Figure the incremental gas cost, offset with anticipated repair and if applicable resale, and see what fits your situation.

Problem is there is very little reliability information about the ML550 online. Sites with "consumer reviews" tend to have only the extremes - either someone has a lemon, or a superstar that makes Toyota reliability look bad. Not much of an enthusiast following online, that I've found.

With my Budbuilt steel rock sliders, Skids and BP-51 lift I get 13.5 - 14 with combined city and highway driving. If I go wheeling, it drops down to 12.

That's not really "very close to stock"! Especially the heavy tires and all that added metal weight. To be a bit more blunt than I usually am, if your first and primary concern is mpg, you should consider something besides an LC/LX. These things burn a LOT of fuel.

My stock 2014 averages 14-15 MPG in my daily commute, 30% highway and 70% stop and go traffic.

At 65 MPH, I get around 19-20 MPG, and 18 MPG at 75 MPH. The highest I ever saw was 22 MPG going through Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

I'm putting on some AT tires soon so I'm expecting those numbers to drop at least 10%.

I drive a Mercedes as my daily driver and I'm pretty much over the $400 oil changes, $80 wiper blades, etc.

That was literally my exact justification for going from my 2006 ML350 to a 2016 Tacoma. In the ~2.5 years since I've spent an easy $25-30k CAD on various modifications for the Taco (try, remove, replace, try, remove, replace), so I'm not sure my original argument of "saving money in the long term" is still valid!

The next vehicle gets AT tires, light skids, and home-made storage option. Maybe a Rhino Rack. Not much more than that.

I hear you. I guess those mods seem like "close to stock" to me given the extent of modifications I've done to my Tacoma.

Fuel economy is not a primary consideration - I don't think - but it's one of the factors. Just seems like in this day and age, and especially for the price, I should be getting better fuel economy.

In town I get between 18-20L/100km. For my commute, which is a mix of highway and city, I average 15-16L/100kms. On road trips, I average 13-13.5L/100. My LX is stock with BFG KO2s.
