I am curious on why you feel that this is necessary and what do you get for $3800 over and above the factory warranty?
-B-
First off, the factory warranty only covers certain items for 3 years (Lexus 4 years). What do you do after that? If you KNOW you are keeping the vehicle longer than 3 years, it's worth it to me. Also, even though technically its a 4-year extension on the 3-year factory warranty totaling 7-years, there are certain items that this covers that the factory warranty doesn't, including roadside assistance. I can be out on a trail anywhere and if I need towing, gas, oil, a part picked up, etc. they will bring it to the closest road. It also provides a rental car when the vehicle is in service.
The prepaid maintenance is nice because it includes all of my service needs. If you look in your owners manual, there are certain "required" checks/lubes every 5000 miles, but then there is a whole list of "optional" checks. This covers all of those options as well, which is nice.
There is a slew of smaller things that it covers as well. If Toyota were ever to deny my warranty for any reason, they will pick it up. Even if I have to take my vehicle to another shop because a dealership is too far away or make an emergency repair myself, it will reimburse that.
It also covers my tires from damage, no matter what the cause.
On top of that is theft protection which pays my insurance deductible up to $2500, which is where my deductible is set at.
Me too. When does one have to purchase the extended warranty? Is there a website or PDF with info?
I purchased mine from a 3rd party company, but through the dealership. I don't have a PDF on it, just a brochure. Talk to your dealership.
I got my warranty at cost. It's a high price to pay because it's so comprehensive, but seriously this is a $72K vehicle. A few extra $$$ shouldn't hurt too bad. To each his/her own though.
If you purchase these warranties right before the 3-year mark, it will be more expensive than had you purchased it at the beginning, but I don't know by how much.
For me, this was part of the negotiation for at-cost everything, including accessories.
Maybe I'm strange (well, OK, I am strange) but I for one am happy that the LC200 looks like a Highlander. I do not want to stand out or be noticed. Especially these days. . . .
I agree with you. People that don't have a clue think it's a different Sequoia or something. I get that a lot. Never had anyone make the comparison to a highlander, but it wouldn't effect me.
Being in Tucson, I like the fact that really no one has a clue. It's one of the most expensive vehicles on the road here, and really no one knows. Take a drive down to South Tucson and I barely get a second glance. Even driving my RX330 or SRX I get stares and feel that any second I'm going to get mugged or shot at.
I could have gotten the LX570, but then that's a Lexus = flashy and everyone thinks you are a snob around here.
Call it a minivan or whatever you want, but I love my LC200 and that's all that matters to me!
