I would get a extended warranty on a Land Cruiser.

There are a lot of unproven technologies that could break.

1. NAV/HVAC system is a very complex vital part of the vehicle. At least $5000 to replace based on 100 series replacement cost.,

2. KDSS...something goes wrong. Likely high priced

3. 6 speed has only been around for two years. No fluid replacement from what I hear. Might be expensive later on.

I like the fact that it pays for the service

Thank you. This was my reasoning as well. I really like that I will never have to pay for service. I had the service department print up current totals for all of the maintenance items (including options for OHV and towing use) and it was more expensive than just purchasing it up front. Plus, we are at $100/hr labor rate right now. That WILL go up, never down.

Or repairs.

The Land Cruiser should not give you problems but it does have the newest technology that is pretty complex.

Did Toyota get rid of that stupid Auto-Height-Control crap on this model??

The KDSS system has been proven. It was originally released on a select GX470s, and I never had a single problem with it. The items listed above are mainly mechanical, and I don't think you will have a problem with those components. It's all the high-tech crap that I would be more concerned with...NAV/HDD/CAMERAS. Those things are a b~tch to troubleshoot IMO.

Do any of you tow with your 200 series LC's? I'm planning on purchasing a 25' airstream in a year or two and my 2001 4Runner won't cut it...6,500-7000lb wt. Purchasing a new 200 is prohibitive for me at the moment, but I would consider a used one in a couple years, providing I could find one. I'm not a big fan of the new Sequoia. Maybe the 2010 4Runner could handle it. I've always wanted a "modern"
Landcruiser.

I'm towing a 7200lb double axle, quad hydraulic disk brake trailer/boat combo.

The LC200 is a bull. The Toyota 5.7 pulls much smoother than my 2007 Yukon Denali XL did (it had the 6.2 liter GMC engine).

The slapstick transmission comes in handy for transmission gear selection. The only thing I miss about the Denali that is lacking on the LC200 is a transmission temp readout which was a feature of the Denali trip computer suite.

I do very infrequent and low-mileage towing so I don't really worry about transmission temp.

But, if you are going to haul an airstream around all day, I would at minimum install a transmission temp gauge and look into whether you would want to install a cooling kit. I know the Denali had a cooling kit, but I am not sure if the LC200 has one.

If the LandCruiser has a sensor for Transmission Temps, something like this aught to pick it up.

Monitors the ODBII connection instead of having to add a gauge and run a temp probe.

I was wondering why you don't like it. I have talked to some owners of Land Cruiser and they said that it was a big mistake to offer AHC for 06-07.

I personally don't like it.

Leaks, malfunctions...... I'd rather just have a regular ol suspension myself. I am glad I got the 2004 without it. Originally, I went to the dealer to see about a 2007..... then he told me about the hydraulic suspension and I said heck no.

Went down to the Toyota dealer and took a look at one. Wow, very nice! Looks much better in person.
Fantastic interior and seats and visibility. My only beef is the non removeable third row seats. Lots of
useful space could be had back there.

In the LC they *can* be removed. I'm assuming the LX is the same, just with a cable connection for the motors.

It's a DIY thing, however, not something Toyota designed to be done. :wrench:

I hear you guys on all this expensive extra stuff that can break. Don't you miss the old fords with the cranks where you did not need a starter. Starters break and have to be fixed.
