Good morning everyone.
I have a 06 LX470 (US) that has been playing up recently, and I need it to be as reliable as possible as I do a lot of family taxiing around with it.
Here's the story.
On Friday we went to the shops, and I left the car idling in the sun, with the AC on as my daughter and wife were waiting for me to get a key cut.
They were watching a movie (Hotel Transylvania if that helps) while I was going from shop to shop to get the right key.
About 30-40mn later, when I came back and drove off, the car gradually lost power, to the point that it got stuck right in the middle of the road, before I could even park on the kerb. I turned off the AC, opened the bonnet and the car started again after 5mn as if nothing had happened. We drove 20km to eat in Ikea, and when I stopped the car, I tried to start it again and it would not. After lunch we drove 30k to home without issue. When we arrived, I tried to stop and start the car and it would not start again. I uploaded a video here
The check engine light is on for some cats that I need to have replaced when I find some.
The bad connection with tyre pressure monitor has been there for a year or so.
234 K Miles on the car.
I checked for errors with my ODBII and apart from the cat issues that I know of, there was a 0171 I think which is Lean Fuel in Bank 1 or something similar, which is not surprising as you can see in the video that no fuel seems to get to the engine.
I took it to my trusted garage, they ran their enhanced ODBII tool and cleared the codes - somehow they managed to get rid of the tyre pressure issue doing this, and they told me that the fuel pump sometimes gets hot and acts up like this, as the motor inside seizes. We have not been able to replicate the issue.
Here in Dubai and in the sun the temp can easily get to 45-50C and Friday was a pretty hot day. I seem to remembering this happening once in the past in the same circumstances: waiting for a kid with the car idling with the AC on and losing all power, then starting again.
That's the whole story. I would be so grateful if someone could guide me in the right direction.
