I wanted to post in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

I did a timing belt + water pump on my 2002 LX470 at 193k. I followed along with OTRAMM's videos (Disassembly (Original), Disassembly (Updated)), and there weren't any surprises other than heater tees absolutely disintegrating while changing — pretty straight forward.

After reassembly, I started everything up and let the LX idle for a bit while I watched the gauges and checked for leaks or a CEL. Everything looked normal, so I went for short test drive. I went a few miles and as I came to a halt at a stop sign, the car died. I did the requisite check under the hood to make sure there was nothing catastrophic, and then crossed my fingers and everything started back up.

Was able to drive back and hooked the car to techstream (Get up and running in 5 minutes! How-To: TechStream In 5 Minutes) and checked for thrown codes. No error codes were saved. I'm of course thinking alternator, MAF sensor, etc. Would just be a little strange for the alt to go out just as I change the timing belt. I watched the car idle on techstream for a bit, and found everything totally normal.

Convinced myself it was a fluke and went for another short drive. Everything went fine until the LX died as I was slowing down to turn into my driveway. I coasted back under my shade tree and started searching MUD. I ran across two threads that pointed me towards the cam position sensor wire potentially being damaged (And these wires go to...........?, landcruiser broke down -( update )broken timing belt -(update) fixed!).

Immediately checked and, yep, cam position sensor wire is rubbing on serpentine belt. Wire was exposed, but not severed yet.

I got some liquid electrical tape, and applied a generous coat. Have been driving without issue.

Moral of the story, MUD saves the day

Cheers
