Builds LX450, Jeep recovery vehicle, build.

Pick up a LX450 in fair shape for $2350 in July. Has 173,000 miles. Has Factory lockers and all the goods.
Transmission is trashed, you can smell the burn on the fluid. Think its in need of a head gasket as well along with other general repair.

I would love to do a 4BT swap.
has anybody thought about doing a Mercedes inline 5 cylinder turbo diesel?

at this point the time my patience and pocketbook would not allow for a proper diesel swap.

Lots have done the merc diesel conversions..& it's probably what I would go with other than a 4BT or 4BD1, if we didn't have easy access to many toyota diesels like in the U.S.
I'm sure you could pick up a good Merc donor vehicle cheap enough..I have seen them on eBay here for a few hundred bucks.
Although I don't know what gearboxes and adapters are available to you over there.

Took about 2 1/2 weeks. 4crawler.com have to plug them. Freaking amazing!

Way better then duiser or cruiserparts




I also kicked the tranny in and the tcase a fw days ago.
Getting close to moving again.

I steeped away from this project but am back on it.

Head is getting finished up now.

Axles are getting rebuilt next week with a kit from @cruiseroutfit (people over there kick ass!)

Looking at a set of Bump it Off Road sliders but I think he is 12-13 weeks back ordered.
