I have no ties to this LX, but I did test drive it this weekend. First off, it's in terrible shape. The owner is asking $3000. 1996 with factory lockers and 215k miles, however rust is everywhere underneath. It was never garaged. Interior is in horrendous condition. Mold on the seat belts, leather cracked and torn, bits and pieces broken and missing everywhere. The vents threw dust into my eyes when I turned on the a/c (not working). Engine was covered in grease and oil. Belts looked original. Little to no PM done, ever.
But, it started right up. My initial thought was, "there is no way in the world I'm buying this thing". But after a few miles, the engine fell into a good rhythm and allure of the 80-series began to sink in.
If nothing else, this vehicle is a good testament as to the build quality of the 80-series. While I passed on this particular vehicle, I respect the owner for buying it in the first place. I'm glad I drove it. I have a new found respect for the 80-series. If you're in the area, drive by and take a look. Maybe even pay the owner a visit. He was very nice. While he may never sell it for $3k, my guess is he'd take $2k.
Meanwhile, my search continues...
