Ok so I want to get a little more sound out of my lx without putting a ghetto box and amp in it. Wanting to replace the console sub with the tang brand one. Here is my dilemma. It doesn't make any noise right now, figured it was due to being blown. So before I order one I take the console out and try to plug in a plain old 6.5" speaker to see if it will at least get power...it doesn't. Can anyone point me to where the stock amp is and I'll see of it has been cut or something like that? Any pointers on why it may not be getting power? It does have an aftermarket head unit in it but I can't find on the controls where a sub power may be selected, maybe the po had it turned down. Any help it ideas, I'm stumped. Wouldn't a regular speaker at least make noise when connected?

Iirc, the LX amp is below the glove box, mounted on the side of the body, forward of the passenger door. It's pretty small, not like what you'd typically be used to seeing for an amp. Sorry can't give more info, been a long time since I've messed with it.

many times aftermarket head units won't supply all the signals a factory amp needs to power subs or extra speakers. Not sure if that is the case here, just personal experience from other vehicles.

I can't confirm because I don't know what I am looking at, but my guess is the factory amp got bypassed somehow when installing the pioneer head unit. I've got these two wiring harnesses unplugged under the console and no idea where they go.

Behind the passenger speaker I found this harness spliced and ran to what seems behind the head unit as well as these two harness plugs and the grey one was cut. Is it safe to assume the installed spliced these and I don't have power to the console sub? Any way to fix it besides another amp or is that pretty much my only option?

Don't waist your time on the console sub, I did the upgrade and it still sucked. Spent $20 and got a LC console with usable storage space.

Every time you go after market on your head unit if you do not use the proper harness you will loose power to the sub!

Like they said before do not waste your time on this small sub, you can get more bass out of better 6.5" speakers with good sensitivity ( in the 90's ) on the doors. I am playing with the idea of installing a center channel coaxial 5" instead of the sub, time will tell!

Well, I have the Tang Band speaker on my shelf and am planning to install it at some point. I will not, however, be running it off the factory amp. It will be powered by the 5th channel of a 5 channel amp I bought. I would not expect the stock Lexus amp to be able to drive the Tang Band very well, especially given that the factory "sub" is 2 ohm and the Tang Band is 4 ohm.

Installation of a aftermarket headunit means either the factory amp was removed or bypassed. On my truck there was a factory bypass prewired behind the head. All I had to do was unplug the amp and plug and play. Otherwise in would have had to run a wire and bypass.

Check to see which was the case for you. Then as someone mentioned make sure you are using the proper wiring harness.
