looked at a 97 LX today. second owner, has 77,000 miles, he bought it in 2004 with 56,000 miles from a dealer in Illinois. He hasn't done much to it other than oil changes and such. he's asking $12,500.

here are a few more pics. doesn't seem very rusty underneath for being in Illinois for 7 years. fairly clean overall, a few scrathes on the doors. seemed to run good, ran it for half an hour, up and down a mountain pass, also a bit around town.

looks very clean in pics and has low miles, but no lockers. ??? I think 10K would be fair :grinpimp:

I agree with others on $10k seems fair you may be able to go lower. I paid around $13k or $14k for my LX, locked with 86k miles. This was back in 2005 in cali right before the gas hit high prices.

Like someone else said "old SUV's with high gas prices" is not going to sell very fast in this market. I know in los angeles SUV sales are on the low, everyone is buying hybrids.

good luck!

oh also check the birf's that's about another $800 to fix. plus you would want to tune it up so that's more $$$

No lockers? I personally would not buy another truck without lockers. I had them installed in my Lexus which is a clone of the one you are looking at. I woudl not do that again.

Mine is a 97 Lexus in Champagne. Purchased it with 92K on the odometer.

I also recently purchased a Green 96 LX with Lockers and 127K miles for $6,800 including delivery to Boston from Illinois. Hardly any rust but a ton of undercoating had to be removed in order to work on the truck. Nat88toy can tell you what a bear it was to remove. Hardly any rust on the vehicle however. I was amazed for a truck from Illinois.

The one you are looking at appears to be clean, low miles, and with little rust you say? Looks like a good truck to drive stock if that is your plan. If you are going to build it, find one with lockers.

His price is way too high in my opinion. I have seen cleaner trucks with lockers and no rust in immaculate condition in California for less money than he is asking. They had higher mileage however ... between 87k and 105K miles the ones I looked at. They were nice but I paid half the price they were asking for my 96 and I got the color I wanted.

It pays to look around. It took me months to find the truck I purchased.

If you do not mind foreging lockers, I would offer 8K cash money tops. it will need axles rebuilds and some complete baseline service & maintenance to be ready for the road.

These low mile rigs are getting hard to find! I'd say it all depends on what your intended uses are. If you're gonna build it, then you might want to find a lower priced truck with lockers.

If you're going to do some local mall shopping (:princess:), the price sure beats newer SUV's, and the LX will hold a good value for many years to come.

g/l

correct, no lockers, it'll be a stock rig for the wife. front axle wasn't leaking, balls had "normal" build up.

just up in the air on it right now.

walk away

If it has low miles and is in good shape, don't worry about the lockers. If you decide you want to really wheel it, save the money for ARB's. If you aren't going to wheel much, it will be fine without or with an Aussie locker ($300) in the rear.

I bought my truck for $11K last year with 89,000 miles and NO rust and NO lockers (Arizona). I think you can find a GREAT truck with lower mileage for that money now, WITH lockers. The only issue is WHEN and WHERE.

Depends alot on your patience level too .. I have none! There are some good, low mileage, locked rigs out there still. Gook luck in your search!

That actually wouldn't be a terrible price here in the NW if that truck is in top running condition. Good LXs here with around double the miles of your example are very near $10,000

Way way way way too high of an asking price is this cat's opinion. Moreover, by looking at it you just validate this person's thought process; that is thinking that he has it priced at close to a realistic value. Sure it's low mileage, and is that turns you on then do it...but be sure to also ask if all the seats have or have not been farted in...this is important stuff.

And remember all, an asking price, and a selling price are two VERY different things. Keep looking IMO too.

...but be sure to also ask if all the seats have or have not been farted in...this is important stuff.

Actually, this is only an issue with the cloth seats.

$10K is fair.

I paid almost CAN$15K three years ago for mine with 78000 miles, but it was locked (not that the seller knew the difference). Two LX's have been for sale in Toronto Canada (one I think for over 1 year). One locked and the other unlocked for approx CAN$10000 (now par with US$) but much higher mileage. Link below.

AutoTrader - Ontario, Light Truck & SUVs, Lexus Lx 450 - Vehicle Search Result

Personally, it's probably worth it, but if you want to go wheeling, I'd see if I could find one with lockers for that price.

Cheers;
