Need some help diagnosing this one. New to me 08 LX570 with 132k. Recently purchased from local Porsche dealer with power rear hatch not working. I have no idea how the PO broke it, etc. I have searched MUD, but have found little about this specifically. Only about worn exterior buttons on LC's.

Here is the current condition:
Press button on dash - long beep
Press button on key fob - long beep
Press close button on hatch when open - long beep
Press open button on hatch when closed - relay noise from up front, but nothing else

In no case does it attempt to activate the door release or power actuator. My first thought was a worn exterior button on hatch, but it tests fine and a faint relay noise can be heard near the dash when it is pressed, so it is trying to do something. The latch assembly has been removed, inspected, and tested. The motor, springs, wiring, and switches operate normally when bench tested.

I'm open to any ideas and would love to hear from someone else with this issue. There was a blown fuse for the interior courtesy lights when I purchased it. Maybe a fuse I can't find?? Out of adjustment or needs reset somehow??

Crawling through to open with a screwdriver kinda sucks!

If you trigger the open button on hatch that causes the relay to activate do you see a voltage at the hatch latch?

I have not metered that specifically. I know there's not 12v to the latch since it bench tests fine and nothing on vehicle. I am only assuming it is a relay click that emits from near the dash area. I appreciate all ideas to work through this.

Just a sanity check...is the power door disable button (below the steering wheel to the right) engaged?

Do you have a Techstream? There are a few codes the system can set:

There is an initialization procedure:

I do not have a Techstream. The initialization info is intriguing, especially since the battery was replaced 1 month before I bought it. That is definitely my next move. That would be sooooo awesome if that's it!

Yessss!!! Initialization was most of the problem. Now it will open or lock with the exterior hatch button so the latch and button are good! The power portion still does not work for open / close. Dash button, key fob button, and close button on hatch all result 2 short beeps, which is different than before.

At least I can open the hatch from outside! Thanks electro992! PM me so I can thank you.

Any further input on the power function issue is welcome.

That's just great. Now I have another problem I didn't know I had. (The things you learn reading this forum...)

I never knew the hatch was supposed to open itself (mine doesn't either). I can open/close the hatch remotely with both the dash switch and fob. The hatch closes with the switch on the hatch, but will not open automagically. I also hear the relay when I touch the hatch open switch, but I have to pull on it to open it.

I also just found the lock button on the hatch, which is a good thing (I think).

If you solve this, please post your findings.

I have the same issue, two short beeps and no back door motor function. Lock works fine so don't really care about it, but let me know if you guys find a solution.

Same thing here.

edit: Can someone confirm that the rear hatch is supposed to open on it's own after hitting the switch on the hatch. I just looked at the owner's manual and it doesn't explicitly say that it will open on it's own.

Yes, mine opens on it's own after hitting the switch on hatch. I seem to have the opposite problem as you, my auto door motor isn't working (FOB, Dash button) but I can manually open the back door no problem.

Yes, it will open all under its own power. I do it all the time, dropping my daughter off at school. Rather than run to the back and then wait for it to open, I will use the dash button to start it opening as I get out of my car, so that it's fully open by the time I get to the back.

If I had to guess, perhaps the issue with it not self opening is weak hatch struts?

+1 on the struts, not sure of the model#, but it's on the strut. Probably sell online and pretty easy to change. I use a a frame ladder to hold up the hatch when I replace struts on auto back doors (pilots, highlanders, etc.), so I would imagine that would work on the LC/LX as well.

THanks for the link @mripper . My hatch was still working, but sometimes wouldn’t open all the way, and I hate hitting my head. Got another 2 inches at least from this simple upgrade.

Note for those installing, you will need to loosen the three torx screws and pop one plastic tab to,get the top bolts in and out. Loosening trim also allows a socket to fit.

Pop the Bottom on after putting all the bolts in place just over extend the door up to get the arm on.

Thanks for posting the initialization procedure. Was about to tear the whole assembly apart to figure out what was wrong when I though maybe I should search first and found this and all works perfectly now. 👍

My hatch miraculously started working after I put the rear seats BACK into the truck. Is that a thing? My issue now being the hatch will get within an inch or two of closing, beep twice, and come back up. I am guessing there is something impeding it but it doesn’t stop hard, it’s like a sensor is relaying to the actuator and then it comes up. I did remove brake lights and trim to paint and then reinstalled. Everything looks normal to me though. (Unfortunately selling her and want the buyer to have confidence everything works)

There's a pinch sensor in parts of the hatch seal. Is it possible they were removed and tweaked?
