LX is at the dealer for a bouncy, rough ride. Computer shows no fault codes so they say there is nothing they can do. Any ideas?

So they just throw their hands up and say 'deal with it'? Lol. There should be a systematic diagnostic procedure in Techstream for them to figure out what's going on. I would imagine that the 570 has more parameters shown than the 470. On our 2004 you can at least go in and see what the system pressures are. I would think that would be a good starting point. Maybe they could even suggest doing something proactive like flushing the system to see if fresh fluid would make a difference. I have little tolerance for techs that charge out at over $100/hr that can only plug in a computer.

Either a globe or multiple globes are shot or your fluid is very old and done. Techs at the dealer generally know jack about AHC unfortunately. For cost purposes most would do a AHC fluid flush first and see if that does not improve the ride. If not then you need to get into hardware.

FSM has a troubleshooting procedure. Sadly it very quickly gets to replace all accumulators, there are 10.
Four low pressure, four high pressure, and two overflow. Most only replace the low pressure. Some more detail on the ahc encyclopedia thread.

This happened on my 2001 LX470 many years ago at 51,000 miles, technically out of warranty at the time. It turned out to be blown accumulators in the AHC system. Lexus first wanted me to pay around $5000. for the complete fix and through extreme persistence on my part they later relented and covered it for me.

I'm not saying it's the same problem that you're having, but it's one of the reasons I bought a 2018 LC rather than buy the LX570 version, even though the AHC may now be much improved.

Dealer repairs are expensive. Imported low pressure accumulators and AHC fluid and $4 each washers from dealer is around $800 all in. That doesn’t include what I estimate at four hours in my driveway to do the work.

It's more than likely going to be one of the 4x primary "No.1 Gas Chambers" or pressure globes in the system. These are the component that's responsible for the "spring" in the hydro-pneumatic part of the AHC system. With a ruptured globe, there's effectively no more spring which is why it's bouncy.

This is one of the primary wear and fault modes of the system and rather easily fixed. Can you isolate it to a specific corner of the car that's bouncy?

I say it's the No.1 vs No.2 gas chamber as No.1 is the primary spring that's engaged in straight ahead driving. No.2 is going to be the higher-rate secondary spring for the front axle that is enabled in harder cornering and braking.

Find the globe right along side the frame rail under the side step. Once the faulty globe is isolated, it's a simple remove and replace.

For those saying this is why they avoid AHC. This fix should be cheaper and easier than most aftermarket suspensions. That wear out far earlier. Provided you can find a competent tech.

Does a flat globe not throw a code?

It is definitely right front and maybe driver’s side. I will start with changing those. Have we reached a consensus on best place to source replacement globes? Appreciate all the help!

Probably not. That would be like a bad CV not throwing a code; they're mechanical not electronic.

How many miles on the LX ?

Ok, anything else this could be before I order front accumulators?

I had a bouncy, rough ride on an 06 lx470, turned out to be the rear height sensor. It was sagging really low in the back though. If yours is at the proper stance, prob not a sensor.

Get on ebay and get the ones direct from japan. Usually the best prices too.

A fluid change isn’t a bad idea. If the vehicle is new to you you never know what the shape of the fluid is. There are stories of wrong fluid used.

I ordered the Citroen front replacement globes. I’ll get some fluid and change it out next weekend and report back.

Interesting. What drove that choice? Do take pics . . .

Good mud reviews. Bought from same vendor for my LX470. Have had good experience with them!

Did you ever fix your bouncy ride issue?
