For those of you who have an LX 570 with the mouse-like controller, how bad is it? I'm considering an LX but I'm worried that the controller will drive me nuts.

I would have beatsonic installed so I can use Apple CarPlay.I agree with @Nothinghead. Plus I don't find myself using it often....only for the occasional change to a/c or 4zone.
I have my phone in a mount in my 2013 LC. It sucks. The phone screen is much smaller than the car’s screen. The phone isn’t designed to be used while driving and doing so is illegal in most jurisdictions.Coming from a 08 LX, now in an 18LX, the mouse is OK at best. I miss the touchscreen. I don’t know about Beatsonic, but I installed aftermarket carplay in my wife’s 19RX350 (also has the mouse) and it was a complete waste of money. With the mouse the cursor jumps all over the place when using carplay, and while using the mouse in carplay, its also active on the Lexus system so all the Lexus nav, climate etc. setting get messed up. Now I just use my phone mounted via RAM mounts.
That is my setup. FWIW I think the mouse thing is fine, probably better than touchscreen, and I like the layout of some of the menus better than those in my '16 LC. The Beatsonic works well, I have the older wired version in my LX, the wireless in my GSF.I would have beatsonic installed so I can use Apple CarPlay.
Does your Beatsonic in your LX still activate the OEM menus "behind" carplay like the cheaper carplay units do?That is my setup. They all do this because they are all the same Chinese box with different skins.Does your Beatsonic in your LX still activate the OEM menus "behind" carplay like the cheaper carplay units do?
You mean does activity in the truck's system (like a CC temperature change) temporarily interrupt the unit's display? Yes.Does your Beatsonic in your LX still activate the OEM menus "behind" carplay like the cheaper carplay units do?
Agree 100%!The mouse takes a few drives... ideally a practice session when parked. Then its just second nature.
Sure I miss CarPlay vs some other vehicles but I'd take the LX, mouse and all, over most of the other SUV's and trucks I've been in over the last year.
I believe I misunderstood your question - what happens is that if a parameter changes in the car, the OEM screen pops up for a couple seconds. I don't think inputs when you are in CarPlay affect the OEM settings on the screen that is "behind/under" the CarPlay screen. I just went out and played with it for a few minutes, and couldn't make anything change on the underlying screens with a bunch of button inputs, and I've never noticed that problem.Does your Beatsonic in your LX still activate the OEM menus "behind" carplay like the cheaper carplay units do?
On my facelift LX, The mouse situation was very annoying at first. It's livable after you get used to it. I treat it like a read-only car-play solution. I choose my media/maps on my phone and press start. I have also seen a few touchscreen replacement options, but the price seems too high for what it is.Helpful thread guys. I'm still on fence between 13-15LX and 16+LX. I think interior upgrades were great, but certainly stuck on the mouse situation. Do you find it annoying when switching between Carplay apps (once Beatsonic, or similar is installed of course)? I do alot of night driving so upgraded headlights in 16+, along with all the other upgrades for the year, are likely outweighing my decision. Just wish there was an awesome solution. iDrive in our BMW is freaking fantastic.
I also like the more inconspicuous look of the 13-15, but in 5+ years the 13-15 will look really dated. Although thats not typically a worry for many folks on this site.
Thanks for reading my ramble. Any input is appreciated.
