I have a '99 LX 470. I will be purchasing the ARB Sahara Bumper. The 2 suggested Warn winches are the M8000 & XD9000. I may winch NO MORE than 5 times a year and that winching is in situations hunting in muddy fields or muddy roads through timber not prepared for. No rock climbing, mountains etc. Do I save a few extra bucks for a new nav/stereo dashboard and go for the M8000 or will it not perform for me when in the described stuck situations and I'll need the extra pull from the XD9000?

I've had this vehicle going on its 3rd year this January. In 2011 I replaced the stock Michelins (275/70/16) with some BFG's (305/70/16).

Thanks in Advance.

M8000 + Snatch Block + 2 Tow Straps + D-Shackles to connnect everything = 16,000-lbs of effective rating to get you unstuck from Mud. Slow, but it will get you out.

Or save some more coin by going with a Warn VR series winch. I just bought a VR-10000s for my LC for ~ $ 680 after the $50 warn rebate. Just waiting on a bumper ...

Or save even more by getting one of the updated versions from Harbor Freight for $300.

Any winch that has the typical 10"x4.5" or whatever the bolt pattern is will work as long as it's not too long overall and interferes with the frame rail mounts. Most winches have the same bolt pattern, just different lengths.

I went with a Viper 12000 elite for ~650ish including shipping, synthetic rope, wireless remote , etc, with all it comes with, I think it's a great deal. I haven't installed it yet but the reviews i found on it were positive and they are a supporting vendor.

This is the third winch I've purchased the last two being top of the line warns. I had reliability problems with both warns so didn't feel like I had anything to lose by going with viper (who have a good reputation in ATV winches but only recently got into full size winches).

To get the equivalent options on a warn would have been about 1800.

I had the opportunity to see an ironman 9500 winch in operation yesterday and it seemed to work well too. Definitely needed the snatch block purchase though as the 100 was frame deep up hill in wet sand, but a 12000lb would have needed that too.

Just my 2 cents

Here is a bad photo of K9crazy stuck per my post above, her Ironman worked well once we operated it correctly and used a snatchblock:

When your axles and frame are dragging in the mud like that, a snatch block is a must. With that said, 16k lbs or 24k lbs will get you out just the same.

Getting stuck in mud requires a greater duty winch than getting stuck in rocks. Snatch block, D-rings, tow strap, tree saver, and gloves are mandatory.

So, its been over a year, how are the Vipers working out?
