What rims are those??
Got them from America's Tire Co.

Here's their PIC

I got about $10 off the listed price per wheel (never hurts to ask)

Anyone know of a good way to remove the blue and red stripe around the edge of these?
Looks like (except mine's six lug):

Can you take a photo around the door sill, etc. where there's a lot of wear from getting in and out. Just curious how "clean" that liner went on in area where there's not a lot of clearance space to begin with.
Mike R.

Will do once I get home.

Um, scrub them up against a couple of them big rocks on Golden Spike? Maybe get in "wedgie" just right?

:D

Doug,
I think the stripes are painted on. You can do this:
1. wet sand the stripes
2. use a brush and auto paint (black gloss)
jack up the truck, carefully hold the brush in one spot and have someone spin the wheel. You should cover the stripes in 2-4 spins of each wheel.

I don't think you can do the wheel spin thing very easily in a full-time 4WD 80 unless the vehicle is off the ground.

Thanks for the tips...I think I'd be more likely to to unstripe them on rocks before I wet sand. I might just tape if off carefully and shoot some high-gloss black on them. I see now that the stripes are painted on -- I was hoping for stick on.

Fingernail polish remover (acetone).

I used to have some black rockcrawlers with the stripes, and used acetone to remove the stripes quite easily. (Of course, YMMV, and test an inconspicuous area first.) :D

Doug,

I seem to remember your old tires being in pretty good shape (except for the one that bit it on 80 :D ). Did America's Tire give you credit for them? You know, this really bites - how am I going to cheat and follow your line when you're running those meats!! :flipoff2:

Doug,

Looks nice, what's the connection with MUDRAK? I recognize the name form the board, but don't know what everyone is talking about. Oh, and can you send me the same pics you sent Junk? Thanks.

p.s. What did you need to match the rear tail gate for?

Safado, I haven't gotten Doug's pic yet in email, but when I do, I can toss it up on the site if you'd like.

really looks great

I didn't ask for credit on the other 4. In fact, they're sitting in my garage -- 4 on OEM rims, 1 rim with nothin' on it -- OEM rims are VERY light, BTW. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the other 4 yet. I might keep them for the custom-mock-M416 I'll get someday.

Thanks. The only connection with Mudrak (for me) is that I had planned on having the work done by them. Some of the guys I know have either already had or will have Mudrack spray the liner material on their rigs.

Mudrak is in Northern CA -- here's his webiste. He's using a material called Superliner. Nice thing about that stuff is that you can add paint tint (i.e. color) so you can have what ever color you want.

Docmallory - I'll try the acetone. Can't hurt :)

Safado - I didn't remove the body panel attached to the tail gate. It's on the lower portion of the tailgate. Only reason to paint it is cosmetic -- so it'll match the rest. If it turns out looking like crap, I'll take it in and have that small section sprayed to match the rest. I don't think it'll look bad though.

Looking at all those holes makes a good case for buy an 80 instead of a 450. Even the holes for the flares on the 80 are bad enough.

well, onecan indeed put rivets in the holes. It'll start to look a bit like an industrial-type vehicle (read Hummer), so only 1/2 :princess: by then...
:D

Can't say that I totally disagree. But not everyone removes the panels and flares. For light wheeling, the plastic does protect the body from small dings...so there are some advantages.

Anyone interested in high-res pics, please PM me with your email address. The 2 pics are about 800MB each.
