Ok so I'm about to pull the trigger on the Icon Six Speed 17" wheels, as I found a place that could fab a 116.5mm-to-110mm aluminum hub ring (which removes my biggest concerns around balancing and ensuring the hub helps carry the vehicle weight).

Icon says these use a standard conical acorn-style lug with 60 degree taper. I know the TRD lug nut kit uses M14x1.5. Anyone have recommendations on a set of black lug nuts and wheel locks? Since these are aftermarket there seems to be little information on the proper length for a closed-end lug nut. Also, this is an area where I don't want to skimp out on either lug quality or paint quality.

Thanks

I've run these on my 100 and were really impressed with them.

Did you end up running a hub ring? Which lugs did you end up going with? I'm thinking about the Six Speed wheels too - are you still happy with them?

I did not. I do have a set of 116.5mm-to-110mm aluminum rings that will work with the Icon wheels if someone would like to try them. But you have to get rid of your center caps to make them work.

I did consider having a set of 114.5mm-to-110mm rings made. I think they would work with the center caps if I remove the little rubber ring that sits between the wheel and the center cap and maybe clip the little nubs around the edge of the cap. I don't know if that ring and the nubs are there just to ensure the center cap fits snugly or if its supposed reduce heat transfer from the rotor/wheel to the caps (since even though the cap is push through it's still a 2-piece design with a plastic cap).

FWIW I've found if I tighten the lugs correctly the conical lugs cause the wheel to center correctly and the ride is smooth at 80mph. I think the Toyota dealer who installed them just put them on with an air gun, and I did find the balance kinda sucked at highway speed if you just crank down the 5 lugs without doing a hand tightening first. To center correctly, hand tighten in a star pattern a few times to get the wheel to center and then go back and tighten with a torque wrench. No biggie.

$171 seems expensive for lugs. You should be able to get a good quality set for under $50.

You get what you pay for, I guess. The lugs I linked to by McGard have a rotating attached washer at the mating surface of lug and wheel - it is the silver part in this pic:

Cheaper lugs, as you linked to, do not have this feature. The idea is that after the lug contacts the alloy wheel, if the mating surface does not rotate while being torqued, that mating surface does not get chewed up.

As with all things aftermarket, we are all free to follow Toyota's proven design ideas or go out on our own - I like the former. YMMV.

For reference, here are the TRD lugs sold by Toyota, made by McGard, showing the rotating washer part:
