THis is the only thing that looks strange to me. I have little experience with what a cylinder wall is supposed to look like. Is this okay? All the rest are pretty smooth, no ridge, and i can still see a crass hatch pattern.

Does that rough spot catch a finger nail? You might want to take a bottle brush hone to it to clean it up a bit.

What is all that crap in the coolant passage in the block?

It has a little catch to it. I think that is just gasket and a little buildup in the coolant passage. I guess it is just scored. I am really contemplating what to do here. The motor is supposed to only have 40k on it and for the most part it looks pretty good. I wonder if i should just pull the whole thing out and rebuild it since i am this far.

I would just clean up that cylinder with a hone and be done with it.

i really thought i had the line in the right spot. So, it is supposed to go to the radiator inlet hose?

mine goes into the reservior. i used a caprice res., but anywhere it can go back into the coolant system pre radiator is ok. the point is for the steam to vent out to where it can cool and return to liquid form to eliminate air bubbles going through the block and preventing proper engine cooling.

sorry to hear you had problems. mine seized from rust in #6 before i got it installed and i had to rebuild it. you'll love the engine once it runs though. i love mine.:D

Unless I have forgotten my LT1's, there is no coolant crossover on LT1's in the intake, so you need to find where the leak was before you put it all back together.

If it is not a head gasket (why would one of those go at 40k), I am wondering about a cracked or warped head.

you are correct. no crossover in the head to intake manifold. the only area coolant goes near the TB/intake manifold is underneath the front where it warms incoming air. 2 ports, one in and one out. i am a bit confused where you ran the steam vents. if you ran it to the front top of the I.manifold(PS) thats the vent from the valve cover back into intake. on the other side front is the PCV valve port. both of which would run coolant directly into the intake if connected to the vents. is that maybe what you did?
