One of my contacts and I were talking on Monday about some projects coming up. Which would have me doing some towing and some overnight stays at Glamis. As well as a few other locations. I'd like to have my landcruiser for. Also been wanting to run hummvv wheels, dual bead locks for a while. I'd have to regear and I still think with everything it would be too much weight.

So the search is on for a LS to swap in.

I think a 400hp LS3 with the 2wd 6L80 6spd behind it. I'm looking up the adapter kits now to mate my transfer case. Mixed reviews on the Marks kit. Using the 2wd set up lets you retain the stock transfer case shifter location.

So far I have a digital AiM mxl dash, HP tuners to ecu program, dual wideband set up. If I need any fab work a friend can tackle that.
Then next is to make sure the oil pan clears the cross member and I've heard the 6L requires some oil pan work to clear the front drive shaft.
The other parts for the swap
  • Water pump kit
  • Oil coolers (Already have)
  • Cam
  • Timing chain set
  • Gasket kit
  • Fuel pump (Already have a Bosch E85 pump)
  • Fuel lines (Already have)
  • Headers
  • Dual exhaust

I really like the 6BT but they are to expensive. I've bee looking for a year now. Then the adapter kit is hit or miss and 5k.... Nooo thanks. I can't justify 10k in my mind just for parts. When I can do a LS for half that.

BTW anyone running or want to run boost on a OBDII landcruiser: AEM’s F/IC 6
I recommend this on S/C powered 1FZ's as well. You can gain fuel and timing control over the stock ECU. Up to 25psi and you can run aftermarket injectors. I carry a few of these in stock. I'm sure it will work on pre obdII with some wiring work done. Can be programmed on a laptop

I did make it to one meet in a landcruiser finally.

Why run a different dash, just keep the stock one. It all works just fine if you know how to do it.

You need a f body oil pan no way around it unless a massive lift is involved or yet offset the engine.

Running the LS3 I take with DBW will make it a lot harder to make the cruise work but is do able.

There is a swap pan made specifically for ls engine swaps. I guess the H3 pan is also known to work.

I was reading up on the different intakes and heads tohhe LS3 was the better. Then when using the truck intake manifold. You get 53hp and 48tq gains. The LS 1 was the turbocharged queen if a turbo was in the future.

As far as the dash. It is fully programable. Thru the obdii.
I can use the gear indicator. I don't think you can have on the stock dash woth the gm transmission.
Also use gps for speedo and mapping.
But there is just a bunch of small pluses like real time digital gauges and not dumbed down toyota ones.
And it's a spare part. Fun to play with.

CC, did you decide to go this route in stead of the turbo build? Picked up a 1fz fe today.. turbo motor build coming.

or in addition to? looking forward to either but was particularly interested in how the turbo set up was going to end up.

either way youre going to have some speed under that hood

I have everything together for the turbo motor. But ended up putting it on the back burner.
The mpg and drive ability is what really changed my mind. I can make the same power on a LS3 and still get better gas mileage. And when combined with the 6spd auto and HP tuners. I can make it run better then factory I'll have full control over it.
The 1FZ is a great tractor motor. And it runs as smooth as butter. I just think the mpg, torque and effort the LS is the right choice. Also I'll be pulling a trailer every so often.

I listed the AEM part above which is key to making the turbo 1FZ work. And I know it will improve the s/c as well. Combined that with a V mount IC and I'm sure it would make a great upgrade.
