I have a land cruiser that I would like to lower. Do anyone have a idea where I can buy a set. thanks
 
Not many of us go that way. Most of us raise our trucks, but there are two or three guys here that I'm sure will chime in because they need the company.
 
I think LandPimp has a buddy thats into that .. saw pics last month. Way slammed down ... :flipoff2:

Cut the coils is the easiest way and cheapest. If you've never done it before- don't cut more than 1/4 of a turn of the coil at a time. You don't want the truck riding on the bumpstops. (Or do you?)

If I could buy a MKIV for what I can get for selling the 80 I'd do it in a heartbeat.

You could do some shopping around, you can get lowering springs for many vehicles, Eibach used to offer lots of kits. I'm sure there are many others out there.

Cutting coils changes (reduces?) the spring rate. I recall folks advising against cutting coils for some reason. In most lowering situations you want to increase the spring rate so you don't bottom out (you don't have as much travel when lowered)

Not something I'd want to do with a landcrusier though, personally. You're thinking of going in the opposite direction from most folks.

Edit: Cary pointed out that the spring rate increases when the spring is cut, and that makes sense. I was wrong. I've never cut coils as I was counseled against it by Eibach engineers. As I point out in my post below, maybe they were just trying to sell me more springs. I do not know.

I'm sorry for taking your post and picking on you, but I guess I get tired of seeing people bash the newb because he wants a lowered cruiser. Hey, at least he's in one, right? Maybe later on he'll discover off-roading and raise it again. You never know!
 
Cutting the coils is the cheapest way as someone else said but it is also the worst way to do it. You will get a worse ride and likely will end up messing something up unless you can find a shop that does it alot.

I'm tired of seeing people getting bashed for voicing their opinion.

Someone posts about getting a "brush" bar, and he can expect 20 posts about how they are damage multipliers, how they serve no function, and look ugly to boot. No one complains.

But someone posts about lowering a Land Cruiser (and yes, if you are going to do that to a vehicle, I would MUCH rather it be an Expedition), someone else voices their opinion, and people jump on him.

Screw that. And not in the butt, either.

Yes there are 80-S lowering kit available, but you have to get it from Japan.

Also the 80-S lowering kit cost $2500.00 shipping & handling not inlcuded.
And here hows the 80s lowering kit looks like: '5 inch lowered sport /stiff spring,
'5 way adjustable Rancho RS9000 shock & 'FR-'RR adjustable panhard.
In terms of handling by lowering the 80-S just not enough you may also want to
consider to replace thicker 'FR and 'RR stabilizer bar.

While the thought of lowering a 4wd makes my stomach turn, cutting springs is not a problem. When you cut springs, the rate actually increases and will compensate for the shorter spring. If you look up the formula for spring rates, you will find it is a function of coil thickness, diameter of the coils and the number of turns. Most people seem to confuse cutting coils and heating coils (a big no no).

A few tips on cutting coils:

1) Once you cut the coil, heat the coil 1/4-1/2 turn from where you cut it and flatten the end to provide a good stable perch like the original end had.

2) Make sure the coil is removed and not under compression when you cut it.

3) Make sure you don't cut to much. I would not go over 2" (3" if you really want to push it) because you will start to severely limit travel and run into handling issues from the change in suspension geometery (Panhard bar will not be located properly after lowering).

4) Change shocks at the same time. The stiffer springs will overwhelm the stock shocks because stiffer spring rates require more shock dampining. Without stiffer shocks, the truck will bounce and handling will be deteriorated from stock, if not outright dangrous. I would suggest you check out Bilstein or the Rancho Adjustables.
