As you people may have guessed, it is HG time for this 225k 80.
That puts me 70% of the way to having the bottom end out or at least looking piston to eyeball.

Reasons for:

1. Love the truck
2. The old more preasure from top end blows out high milage bottom end if I don't do it, theory (or urban legend)
3. Can't be that much more for rings, bearings, gaskets, or even machine shop charge for them to do it.
4. Would run oh so great, and be able to handle blower with no sequale.

Reasons against:

1. Cost
2. It is a high milage unlocked 96 Crusher
3. Only cost me 10 - 11 for a good used 97 locked 80.
4. You tell me

Thanks boys!

ps The chances of me becoming a serious rock climber are about as good as becoming a new Daddy after my vasectomy....Although being safe in bad weather and running through the Brazos river are high on my list of priorities...

What landtank said.

The only reason I'd really see you *needing* to do the bottom end is if the crankcase got a lot of coolant in it when the h.g. went. That's what happened to my '87 60 series. I did the head job & got it all back together & when I started it back up, the main brgs were shot:doh: They were ok before the gasket going....

When the '97 h.g. went, I cought it fast enough & shut it down & didn't do any brg damage:D

I'll take the block and head to the same machine shop, then put it back together myself. Why?

Rings, bearings and additional gaskets would add about 500 bucks. Pistons are about 60 bucks a piece.
