I was told that I needed to spend close to $4k to replace both of the control arms as the bushings alone cannot be replaced. Isn't there any other solution?

This for an 08 LC

Lots of guys on the forum have Tundra LCA, maybe someone would sell you their old 200 series LCA. If not you can get a new set off eBay for $430.

It seems I didn't get lied to. I called Boch Toyota and they said the last Toyota where you could just buy lower control arm bushings and not the control arms as well, was the '96 Camry. Even though the parts are in fact listed separately, as you pointed out, they are not sold separately or replaced independent of the control arm itself. I talked to two separate independent toyota shops that confirmed that to replace the bushings you must also replace the control arms.

The link I posted.

Any semi-decent shop can replace bushings. It's a very basic job.

But if you're not comfortable just replace the whole kit.

I called the link you posted and they said they would not sell me just the bushings. I can't find a single " semi-decent" shop that says they can buy the bushings only and then install them. It appears you're mistaken.

Specifically the shops I've discussed this with are: Desert Toy in Phoenix, AZ Japan Auto Repair in San Rafael, CA Independent Toyota & Lexus in Las Vegas, NV and Precision Performance in Las Vegas, NV.
If you can give me the name of a parts rep that will sell me the parts and the name of a shop that is willing to do the install, I would appreciate it as I do not want to replace what appears to be perfectly good metal. Thank you

@earthsurfer I've got one good lower control arm i'll give you for the price of shipping. its from an 08. 142K miles when pulled.
truck was in Tucson since new. no rust, never off road.
pm where you are at and i'll see what shipping would cost, if you want it. 50% there.

@TexAZ...being his typical good-guy self! :)

Good info from @TonyP too, as usual.

trying to bank some good Karma before this year's wheeling season. Hopefully I used up all the bad Karma last year in Moab....
Wifey did amazing getting us home, but has been turned off to wheeling in Utah.....

I don't know what to tell ya man. I literally have the bushings.

Here are the parts numbers. Throw them into the Google machine and see what happens. Good luck.

48654-60040
48068-60030

The bushings are 48654-60040 and 48655-60040 front and rear. I had to call 4 dealers before I got Toyota of downtown LA that said they would sell them without buying the lower control arms also which are 48068-60030 and 48069-60030 left and right.
When I asked why I couldn't find anyone to just install the bushings, the rep suggested is that it's much easier to install the new lower control arms as well.

So, thank you Tony P for sticking with this issue, but I still need to find a shop that will just install the bushings. I'm currently in Las Vegas, NV...any suggestions?

I find this type of ignorance and/or dishonesty on the part of supposedly reputable repair shops to be highly frustrating.

Thank you for your kind offer. I really just want to find someone fairly local to Las Vegas, NV who is willing to install the bushings only. The actual control arms both seem to be in good condition. In any case, I think you'll receive the desired karma points for your offer.

I don't always believe in Karma...but when I do...I believe in yours.

It's certainly easier for the worker just to replace it with an entirety new arm but if your lower ball joints are in good shape its kind of a waste of money. If you needed lower ball joints too, then I'd say sure. Granted, the tradeoff in labor might even it out who knows?

As for a shop to do the swap in Vegas, no idea. Pressing out and replacing bushings is very simple for any shop... usually.

Ball joints arent expensive to swap out just for the record. I replaced the LCA bushings and cam bolts last year along with sway bar bushings. These items are available, might come straight from the mothership in Japan but you can obtain them. If you are ever in question and get the run around again give a private message to @beno and he might help you out with sourcing your needs. Tony saved you some loot. You owe him some push-ups
