Morning!

Has anyone figured out a way to mount the Yakima Mega Warrior any lower than just putting it on the factory crossbars? It’s about an inch too high to fit in the garage with it on.

Factory rack.

Might be able to mount the rack underneath the crossbars using a different mounting method.

There is really not a way to do this with a Yakima Basket because the lower tubes that run the length of the basket are to far inward. If you switch to a Rola basket, you may be able to use the 4Xinnovations mounts. It drops the basket about an inch or so. I have these on a 5th Gen 4Runner and they work great. I havne't tried them on a Cruiser though.

Having never messed with my own roof rack, this may be a stupid question, but would it be possible to flip the cross-bars on the factory roof rack upside down (so they curve down instead of up), and even if you did would it gain you anything?

The suggestion above of flipping the Yakima mounts upside down and running the factory cross bars above the floor of the basket seems a plausible solution if you could get them re-mounted with the basket already bolted to them, because from what I can see in the pictures it looks like you'd have to remove the cross bars to mount them with the basket in this manner. If I were closer I'd be more than happy to meet up and play with the setup to see if I could help figure something out

I have thought about flipping them upside down... just haven't had time. I wonder if the shape is more of a roof contour, or a structural design. If the curve is designed to flex and hold the weight, I am concerned that flipping them may cause an issue in capacity.

I have no idea what you use the roof basket for - would a roof platform suit your needs? A platform will save you a few/several inches.
