How much oil pressure should I have for a good running 78 FJ40? My gauge only reads 1/4 on the gauge when the engine is cold. The oil sensor is new. I I grounded the gauge wire and the gauge goes all the way to the top. I am going to hook up a manual gauge to see the pressure but I just wanted to see if anyone knows what the correct PSI range should be.
Thanks for your help,
Vern

Until you have a real pressure gauge, you don't know if you have a problem or not. The factory spec says it should be above 37 psi at 3000 rpm. On my 76 2F it runs about 40psi and has for years, so it must be adequate.

Dude,
Don't come in here with this "1/4 gauge" stuff...
Put in a real gauge and give us numbers.
(Though a quarter gauge cold sounds low...)

Ok, I took you advice and borrowed a "REAL" pressure gauge and it reads 60psi at idle which I assume is good. Now I just have to figure out if it my new seasor or the gauge. I appreciate your help on this matter. When I saw it only at 1/4 on my stock gauge with a new engine, I about panicked.
Thanks again,
Vern

That's great. I get 20 psi at idle on my tired 2F.

60 psi at idle is maybe too good, doesn't seem realistic to me. was the truck warm? what wt. oil.
