Can anyone tell me how many gallons of gas that there is in the fuel tank of the 100 series landcruiser when the low fuel indicator first appears.

Well on mine I usually have about 4 left, but yours may be different. The tank is 25.4 gallons.

I drove 55 miles one time when the light first went on and ran out of gas in my driveway when I got home. Dumb, I know ( I passed 2 gas stations on the way into town), but now I know and so do you. I get about 13.5 mpg, so about 4.2 gallons as was suggested.

think the owners manual says 5 gallons, also has a note "do not tell the wife this info" :D

its 4-5 on my 80

Like Pimp says, it's 5 gallons. When it comes on, I know I've got at least 50 "safe" miles to get to the gas station.

Also, like Pimp says, the "do not tell the wife (girlfriend in my case) this info" is apropos.

I have about 5 gallons remaining the first time it blinks on (and then it goes off again). Driving in the mountains sloshes the gasoline around in the tank and we always get that "early warning" blink that I didn't get when I lived on the flatlands in North Texas.

As Tim the Tool Time's wife once said, "If it's that important, why doesn't it get brighter or blink or something as the problem gets worse?"

try this, when on the E mark, park it nose up or nose down and see it the light comes on

How low is the needle when the light comes on, I think my bulb my be blown, even when the needle is just touching the lowest mark on the gauge, the light is not on?

Again, from experience, the needle dips below the E mark a fair amount before the engine shuts down. BTW- it goes into "safety mode", by dethrottling and not allowing acceleration.
