New to posting to the forum. Great site and has been lots of help. I have a issue with my 1992 Land Cruiser. Today as I was pulling into my driveway I had three dash lights come on at the same time. The A/T oil light, the "Brake" light and red light on the voltmeter. My digital gauge was reading 11.5V also. I'm thinking these are all tied together somehow. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Fusible links! I don't know which ones but I've read about this problem before.

Thank you mct75. So, you agreed that my problems all seem to be related? I will look into the fusible links hopefully tomorrow. If anyone has other suggestions for my issue I'm glad to hear them.

I believe all of those systems get powered from the same FL. The fusible links are in a little black back right off the positive battery terminal.

Took a quick look at the part you were talking about. The two wires leading back to the battery from the black box that have the fabric cover do not look too pretty. Are those the fusible link wires? I'm not a electrical expert by any means.

Almost certain those are it. Here's mine. They don't look that good either.

Yeah, mine look very similar to that pic. Probably a little worse. I will go by my local toyota dealership and order that part. Hopefully that takes care of my problem. If not I'm sure it would need to be replaced soon enough anyway. Thank You.

Get the little black box thing too. When I took mine apart, that got a little mangled and putting in a fresh one was nicer.

Alternator going out

Yup. the Christmas light syndrome. Alternator or like mention fusible links. The link (set of 3 are cheap)

Neither is that bad. The links can be had from any dealer for around $15 give or take. The alt can easily be tested and in the big picture won't break the bank either. GL hope it's an easy fix.

this was the sign my alternator went bad. it was aftermarket but i did spray that engine degreaser on my engine bay and that mucked things up

Replaced the fusible links as mentioned above. No go. Looks like I'll be replacing the alternator. Any ideas on where to purchase one at a reasonable price? Thanks

It might be advantageous to have the alternator tested at a local parts store. Often they will do it for free.

I've had just one alternator tested for free.

The kid at o'reilly said it appeared to be dead but he wasn't sure his machine was spinning it the right way (from a diesel engine).

The kid at autozone said it was A-OK.

Replaced it with a rebuilt unit and had less problems.

Tore it apart and found that the rings on the armature - what the carbon brushes brush against - had deep, deep grooves. Veritable valleys.

*shrug*
