did a compression test and got some crumby news, all are low but cylinder 6 is 125 and 1 is 60 :frown:

not really sure where to go from here, any ideas?

Do a leakdown test to see what is actually wrong prior to going into it. What i would do anyway.

Weird that it happened on both ends of the engine. Try putting a tablespoon or so of oil in the 1 and 6 and repeating the test.

how do i read the results of a leak down test? and oil in the cylinders, how does that work? dont mean to ask so many questions, im just full of them

on a cold start the engine will turn and idle a bit rough, it has great throttle response, and no rattling nor pings, when in gear it gets a bit more lumpy and gutless on acceleration, im fairly certain it needs a new distributor o-ring, when turned off after warming up, it needs about 20min between starting again, does smell rich, those are the symptoms

What year motor are you working on? If it's a 3FE, have you done a valve adjustment? It is required maintenance, often overlooked, if they are tight will cause valves to leak.

Adding oil to the cylinder before doing a compression test tells you whether you are leaking air out the valves or past the rings. If the compression comes up the problem is piston/rings. If it does not change the problem is the valve.
