A quick search/scan of the 90 forums don't seem to yield much, thought i'd see if anyone has any ideas.

I imported my 90 from japan around this time last year, drove it from SLC to Denver no problems. Actually drove it for months from January through the spring with no problems.

Over the summer i was at a stop light with my foot on the brake and the red brake (the one that comes on when you set the ebrake) light came on on the dash and the car started to roll forward a bit. The pedal still had pressure, i pushed a little harder on the pedal and the truck stopped but the light stayed on. As soon as the traffic light turned and i took my foot off the brake, the light went out and things went back to normal.

Over the next few weeks, the problem got progressively worse, i had to press harder and harder on the pedal to prevent the truck from rolling forward - eventually i just put it in neutral (it's an auto) and with more than normal pressure on the pedal, i could keep the truck from moving at stoplights.

Eventually it started happening as i was slowing down - same thing. i would brake like normal, it would start braking like normal but then the brake light would come on and i would have to jam hard on the pedal just to come to a stop.

I took it to my buddy who runs a shop that admittedly focuses on performance but he has 30 years experience on toyotas and personal experience on USDM landcruisers. We pressure tested the brake system, it holds pressure just fine. I also had new pads, calipers and rotors i wanted to install, we did that, bled the system a few times and it didn't seem to change anything. I ended up getting a new vacuum pump (part 29300-67020) and it seemed to make things night and day better ... for a few days.

The more i use the brakes, the more it's returning to basically not functioning. Has anyone ever experienced this?

We were going to replace the check valve and potentially the master cylinder next but it's very odd to me the pump would "fix" it and then in less than a week the brakes would return to basically not functioning. I hit the brakes and the pedal still has pressure (although it's not "normal"), the red brake light comes on, i have to jam hard to slow down even a little.

thanks
bret
