Looks like there's finally a new option for 98-02 factory Nav replacement! (1 Viewer)

I will just stick to my iPad mini mount with maps / gauges / audio.
Can you elaborate on this? I have two '03's and currently just use one of those plug in bluetooth adapters with the screen turned off. I'm no audiophile so playing the xm app is fine for music and news.

I have an email inquiry in with the company that sells these HUs, SMARTY Trend Company, with a pic of my 2003 LC to verify whether one of their units will work. I'll keep everyone posted.

EDIT: I just finished an online chat with, probably a bot, on their website. The chat operator said that this unit will work with my 03LC w integrated Nav and climate controls. I expressed my reservations that I didn't see any climate control module on the HU, but the chat operator said the climate controls are integrated and I could return the unit if necessary. Payment through PayPal is accepted.

FWIW, Grom's latest software update to their VLine V2 has made it pretty snappy. Plus the audio question is entirely moot thanks to not replacing that OEM piece. GROM Audio | VLine Connected Car Infotainment System | Maps Apps CarPlay Android Auto - https://gromaudio.com/vline/

Folks are based in Dallas and regularly ship software/firmware updates. I'm pretty happy with it +2 years in.
This has been on my radar. I'm running their BT3 box I moved over from my old VW.

I was going to see if I could fit the VLite VT2 behind the factory nav instead of having to take up my glove box. I only want CarPlay and don't need to full range of stuff the VLine has. Supposedly an update has been made to the VLite to fix the audio quality issues, too.

Waiting to watch Black Friday pricing this year and I might give it a shot within the return window.

I think I am going to give this one a try. I've been on the fence with getting the factory manual controls and then getting a normal double din like people have been doing for a few years now. As far as I know, this is the first true plug and play option for the 98-02 Nav LCs. So of course I'm not a huge fan of being the "tester" for it, but I just love the idea of the simplicity here. Haven't ordered it yet, but plan on doing it withing the next couple weeks. Will keep you all updated!
Any thoughts on this unit if you have now installed?

Please report back if you do move forward. I just purchased my 05 LX and really want CarPlay wit good sound quality.

Well back to the drawing board - I just learned that unit is not compatible with the Mark Levinson / LX470..

They did some due diligences and refunded my order before it shipped at least.

I'm very tempted to try this solution for my '99 Cygnus eventually, but in the shorter term, since everything works for now, will probably just go with a Grom Bluetooth adapter. But I'm very curious to hear if anyone tries it.

I already have a CarPlay head unit in my 98 but curious about this since it has HVAC controls…the finicky buttons are kind of annoying

I went back-and-forth with the supplier from China about this piece with the integrated heating and cooling buttons. They are having a ton of issues with the unit and it sounds like it’s extremely faulty. They can’t get the HVAC functions to properly work. I would 100% stay away from this unit Until these issues resolved and we have real world examples of people running it with no problems.

Just came across this unit. Looks to be full plug and play and replaces the factory Nav w/HVAC controls. Up until now we've had to retroactively replace our dash with manual AC controls then buy whatever double din head unit we wanted. This appears to do all of that for you since it actually comes with knobs and AC buttons as part of the complete unit.

I just finished installing it. It took a couple of weeks of back-and-forth with the manufacturer, but all the systems work.

More details when you have time please

Did you lose any functionality?

Is the system slow?

So it wasnt really plug and play. What issues did you have with install? Did it require hacking into anything OEM?

Yes please when you get a chance please discuss what you had to go over with the manufacturer for. Thank you

Let us know how it's been working. I have an 02 LC with NAV and would love to install this if the HVAC controls are working.
